I have a Revo STX, and Pflueger Patriarch.
to totally different reel mechanically.
Well they both saw some salt water yesterday, so of course when I got home I stripped them down and cleaned/re lubed them.
Now, on BOTH reels, its as though the spool tension knob has sort of lost its effectiveness.
On both reels, if I tie on 1/4oz weigh and hold the rod out, I have to tighten the tension knob almost all the way down.. I.E. just 3 or 4 clicks short of being cranked all the way down before it gives enough tension on the spool for the weight not to fall.
before, I had the same amount of spool tension, with about 3/4 turn left on he Pflueegerer, and almost a full turn on the STX.
if I leave the reel at the previous settings, the weight will fall fast, hit the ground and I get a minor backlash, trying to actually cast that way, results in a scene resembling Buckwheat crawling out of my reel.
Its the same on both reels, so it is something I am doing, getting oil somewhere I shouldn't perhaps.
Btw both of these reels are less than a month old, and this is the first time either has been cleaned.
any ideas?

Make sure you did not lose any shims in knobs?

that was my first assumption, but I checked and I dont have any extra parts hehe, and I re-did everything and double checked the diagram to make sure everything went on in the correct order.

I think that is probably the issue.

Well i stripped the reel back down, and removed all grease and oil with solvent, then re-greased and re-oiled the reel VERY carefully, and only in the places specified in the maintenance book.
Made no difference, the know still turns 4 or 5 times and makes NO impact on the spool tension, then the last half of 1 turn it does, the setting I need for a 1/4 spinner bait is 3 clicks from being absolutely bottomed out.
not.. good.

how did you prepare the drag washers. are they dry, greased, or oiled? did you by chance misplace the preload washer in the tension cap?

Take them to a repair shop. You've left something out, or they are assembled incorrectly. After all this you need professional help or you would have found it by now.

And by professional help, I think he means a professional reel mechanic, not a shrink....lol...

With all this aggravation, he may need both. :-)
