jafish if you dont harvest some fish the population of the lake will tend to be overrun with the species that is most dominant in that particular body of water. In this case it would be the spots from what I hear.

unless somebody that fishes alanhenry has some pull with a high up parks and wild life official I dont se things changing anytime soon. The only thing we all can do is allways stop and talk to the fish survey guy at the ramp when he is there. every time I se him I tell him I caught about 30 16-17 inch spots and not one largemouth while I was out...lol Ive heard all the rumors about the lunker program but I dont know how much truth there is to any of it. I beleive ttufisherman caught a lunker that had been entered into the program 2 times previously. That is a testament to the care that the people in the program give to the fish,( Sadly, I beleive she died on her last trip back to the lake) judging by the number of lunkers entered and the lack of increase in the trophy population I just dont beleive the program has positively affected AH, so if I catch a lunker I will return her back to do her thing in AH, Also I am as guilty as alot of others when it comes to transfering a few trophy fish to private waters...I have not done this in quite some time and do not plan to anytime soon. Agreed. I dont think anything will be done soon either. I have tried emailing, but maybe I need to make some phone calls and find people that can give us some answers. On the note about the fish... from what Phillip Pool (who caught the fish third) said, he released it back into the lake alive and healthy. It looked fine when I put her back too. Who knows... Curtis you gonna be around at Thanksgiving or are you headed to the Metroplex? Any chance we get on a 1 ounce Jig pattern?

My only problems with Henry are the Spot overpopulation and the ridiculous ramp fees. I am still intrigued by the sharp depth changes and the quality of fish that CAN be caught from there. I agree fully with changing the limits on Spots. IMO it should be 5 fish/ 12 inches.....

I catch bass out of Meredith. Decent ones from a northerners perspective anyway. Smallies and bucketmouths. The real trick is you gotta be willing to walk a lot if you don't have a boat.
Fishing Meredith is similar to fishing back where I'm from in some of the inland lakes. PM me and I'll shoot you my # and perhaps we can meet up out there some time.

Same with fish. What do you think happened to the easy catch at Alan Henry? They didn't starve with all the shad you see there. They didn't walk out the gate they were carried. Most of them are suffering from freezer burn.

We had probablly our last Colorado City Bass Tourney on AH this year all I have heard since the tourney was griping about all the Spots every one caught. Only six or seven LMB were weighed in. Don't think the group will vote to go back. I for one think its time to do something about the Spot population. I love that lake and enjoy the fishing there but used to catch a few Spots in only certain areas but lately have been catching them all over the lake. Definitely needs to be a lowered length on them cause I would try and catch enough to stop their take over of the lake. I would mind eating a ten inch Spot....(but in truth they do fight harder than any LMB I have caught) Just make sure they don't ever make their way to the Colorado City Lakes we still love the LMB here.

Alan Henry is about the only lake I fish these days as I have a little place there. I fish a local bass club once a month. For the past 3 months, no one has won the big bass money because the bass has to be at least 5 pounds. I did win the carryover money 2 weeks ago with a 7.5 pounder. Five pounds total as been taking first place. Don't let anyone kid you, Alan Henry is not near as good a lake as it was 3-5 years ago. I think the spots are a part of the problem. The other problem is--it hasn't been stocked in several years. I love the lake as it is a bass fisherman's dream as everywhere you look--looks like a bass should be hanging out. But the fishing is not worth 6 hours of driving.

Restocking takes years to develop a good amount of large LMB. It wouldn't need restocking if the meat fisherman had not killed the bass we had. You can ignore the cause of loss but the fact is their gone. They have been killed at a rate faster then reproduction was possible. You guys that set up the camps across from the gate are the ones left out to dry with the lack of LMB. I have been down here at Lake Falcon for over a week now and it's just like AH use to be. The bass catch has the numbers AH had but the fish are even larger. The AH bass would have been much larger by now had they been allowed to live. OH WELL.

Ok I have an update. Finally found the right guy to talk to Bobby (Farguar)spelling. He is the Reginal Director TP&W. Found out they put 135,000 largemouth fingerlings in A. H. and White River last June and plan on doing same again next June. He told us they are looking at some different changes, 16in min. on the spots being one of them. They are also looking at stocking Walleye. I am giving his phone # to all of the guys here at the lake. Anyone wanting his # for helping A. H. PM me. He told us that the more calls they receive in regards to A.H. the more likly they are to do something.
