GRAPEVINE WOULD BE A GOOD CHOICE. PLACE THEM ON THE SOUTHSIDE NEAR ROCKY POINTS IN 15'-20' DEEP WATER. NATURALLY YOU NEED TO LET ME KNOW WHERE THEY ARE SO I CAN APPROVE THE LOCATION.

Dumb Question -
Do people need permission to drop brushpiles/condos/structure in a lake?

COACH, IT'S AGAINST THE LAW OR RULES TO PLACE ANYTHING IN ANY PUBLIC BODY OF WATER WITHOUT PERMISSION. (I THINK YOU PROBABLY KNOW THAT)
I WOULD NEVER URGE ANYONE TO BREAK THE LAW. HOWEVER I ROUTINELY DO IT MYSELF, SOMETIMES ACCIDENTALLY, OTHER TIMES ON PURPOSE. (AND I BET YOU DO TOO)
SPEEDINGS AGAINST THE LAW YET MOST OF US DO IT ON PURPOSE DAILY.
THE LAWS AGAINST PLACING STUFF IN LAKES HELPS GUARD AGAINST SOME IDIOT DROPPING A CAR WITH OIL IN THE ENGINE OR SUCH IN THE LAKE OR PLACING SOMETHING IN 4' WATER WHERE BOATS WILL HIT IT.
AS WITH SPEEDING, IF I USE MY HEAD AND GOOD JUDGMENT ABOUT WHAT AND WHERE I PLACE IT I WILL PROBABLY BE OK. I PLACE ALL MY CONDO'S IN DEEP WATER WITH SUFFICIENT WEIGHT SO THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE A HAZZARD TO NAVIGATION OR RESURFACE AGAIN, EVER.
THEY PROVIDE A HOME TO THE FISH AND ALSO HELP ME AND OTHER ANGLERS LOCATE THEM.
IF EVERYONE ALWAYS FOLLOWED THE LETTER OF THE LAW WE WOULD STILL BE BRITISH.
JUST MY $.02

According to the TP&W, there are no rules for sinking brush piles and condos... You do need to contact the Water Board on such lakes that have them to find out if there are restrictions. I personally have contacted CC and Joe Pool and no restrictions were put against brush piles and PVC structure. They did ask me to sink it deep enough so that it would not be a harzard if the lake level was down...

dyerod, Place them in a lake that you will fish often, cause it's a lot of work to just fish it once in a while. A couple of things to keep in mind; you don't want to set it close to any natural structure and you don't want to set it close to another condo....and yes, people are doing that in Grapevine simply because they don't take the time to look an area over good enough. When you pick a likely spot to place it, set a marker buoy and search around the buoy for at least 100 yards in all directions to make sure that there is nothing else in the area. If there's not, sink it. And Ernest told you right on some likely spots and depth.
