Contact TPWD for trout stocking dates.
My first time fishing for them last year in a local city park pond.
String cheese was suggested, but I only caught a catfish and one trout
I switched to an ultra lite spinning rod with 4# line. Using a casting bubble I fished small flies. That did the trick. Seems like most any small fly I threw out was hit.
This year I am using a fly rod and trying out some of my home made flies.

it's been a while since I fished them in NM, I grew up on them. We always did good on this stuff, I think it's Berkley's Power bait.

Salmon eggs, meps, and small rattle traps have worked for me....and of course the most natural food to stocked trout is corn. grin

That's why they call it fishing and not catching!

I've fished for trout a lot in Arkansas and Montana, and some in Colorado. The best lures are in-line spinners like RoosterTails and Panther Martins, 1/16, 1/8, or 1/6 oz. depending on the water situation. Good baits are worms, corn, or Berkley Powerbait. Mash down the barb on the hook, that will make life much easier.

trout chow from feed store you can chum with it and it is what they raise them on.... it is kind of hard so use a needle to drill a hole to attach to a small hook a small drill bit also works have not tried a hair rig yet(carper style) but should work also. you can also use brown puff balls from a craft store to make a egg fly that looks like the trout chow. throw a handfull of trout chow and throw your baited hook and it will be on. small spoons also work well super dupers in small sizes 500-502 try to find the copper ones hard to find but worth the effert hope this helps. keep a tight line and happy hunting.
