Is Alan Henry worth the drive from Amarillo if you have never been on the lake? I am thinking about driving down this weekend but it is 3 dang hours one way, kind of cuts into your day unless you leave at 3 in the morning and I dont think im going to leave at 3 for a fun day of fishing but i would for a tournament. Let me know what you think.

I was at the lake on Thursday. Fished from the bank for about 20 minutes and had 2, 1-4 and 1-6 on a live magic shad on the back of a spinnerbait. Missed another. The lake is 2.5 ft low and the pepper grass is starting to die (just underneath the water line) and the fish I caught were coming out of it and hammering the SB. Probably a good time to fish, stable weather and a front rolling through, if you want to try to catch some good fish. It is CLEAR (except all the way into the mud in Gobbler) and there was only 1 boat on the lake that day.

Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I would go to Ute. It's closer and the fishing is usually better over there. But, I have never had a good day on AH so I would never choose to go there.

Go somewhere else. Anywhere.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.

Brian I was thinking of going out Saturday. If you were going to be by yourself I might consider leaving my boat at home and pairing up with you for the day and showing you around. Fall is my favorite time of the year on the lake.

Brian, I wouldn't go to Alan Henry. Go to Ute, if you're free on Saturday, PM and I'll be going to Ute on Saturday if you would like to join me.

Don't listen to younggun....he's cursed on that lake. You got to treat the AH like a you would treat a politican....what ever you think it will be doing, it won't! It will be exactly opposite. If you think they should be deep they'll be shallow...if you think clear water they'll be muddy...so basically run the lake and move alot and you should catch a couple.

The only problem with going to Ute is the expense of an out of state fishing lisence that expires April 1st. I went to Ute last month and cought a few dinks and one good fish about 4lbs. I am going to figure out how to catch Black Bass on Merideth if it kills me. I have caught every thing but a black bass on that dang lake. The sandbass are real shallow now and fun to catch but bass are what I realy like to catch. Any advice on this lake would be great.

Alan Henry is god awful. Its sharelunker days are a thing of the past. They're going to charge you somewhere between 10-20 bucks (depending on if you bring a partner or not) to launch at the only public ramp on the lake. Tournaments there are often won by the only guy to land a limit at the same time other lakes are taking 20-25 lbs to cash a check. It's Texas Tech's home lake, and we all Hate when that tournament comes around.

Just my two cents. Alan Henry Sucks. Its not worth your time man.
