I have the 565 on my toon and a 30# motorguide. The only mistake I made was I bought the biggest battery Acadamy has, it weighs about 55lbs.

I did do some research before I bought mine. For the money and because I like to do overnight trips on the Brazos I made a good choice. For going to the lake for a day a smaller lighter battery would be fine. If I could afford it I would have a Optima gel cell but the battery would cost more than my toon and motor. I did a lot of reading on the internet and TFF then went big. You can start a new post to get input from other tooners

the garmin 140 is perfect for me. 120 bucks and a piece of PVC and soe duck tape worked fine to mount.

Took the pontoon out for the first time, was suprised by how much even a little breeze can throw one out of position. I was spinning around quite a bit.
If you don't use the oars, you can't fish, and if you have to use the oars you can't fish.

Rowing accuracy will come with practice. Buy some flippers they will help to control your position in wind and current. A anchor is very helpful too. When I go out I use my trolling motor to get to a general area and then my flippers to stay in one place or to move slowly while locating brush piles and other structure on my hummingbird. I also always take my ores in case of equipment failure. One other piece of equipment is a pfd, never leave shore without it.
