Manual shows a test with two gauges in series with pump that I don't have. If I run engine(manual squirt method into carbs}and the gas line out of the pump into a container and it pumps gas into the jar, have I: 1) determined that the pump indeed works fine or and my problem is in the carbs; or 2}only received a false indication that the pump wouldn't work under a full load by not testing properly?

Whats the motor doing? Give us a little background? Has the motor been sitting? Whas the compression and spark look like?

If the motor wil not start its probly not the fuel pump as the primer bulb will supply enough fuel to the carbs to start and run and if it will start by squirting fuel down the throats its not flooded.

Best to just change out the diaphrams when in doubt as they are cheap and easy to change. Takes longer to test than to change.

Yes has only been run a couple of times since 2006. Had cancer and been on the mend. Had to retire and can't afford a good mechanic. Mine went out of business and I know of one over in Garland but these hospital bills etc etc make it hard to afford what I use to when I made 120K plus. I'll be in good shape in a few months, able to afford fishing trips and I want to get it running. Carbs need help I know it will run by squirting gas in the carbs. My father in law who is older than me and I tested it. So we're two old f---- with time on our hands for a while. I just want to be sure of the pump. Since diaphrams are cheap I'll go ahead and replace it. Also I wnat to put a tank disconnect in the fuel line, so I can run the carbs dry as I use to with my older boats. I'm concerned about adequate fuel flow but if it seems to be a problem I can switch back. Thanks for the reponse men. I appreciate it.

If this engine is a oil injection then you cant dissconnect the fuel and run it out,if you do then you have carbs full of pure oil.

Just take your time, paying attention to everyting removing the carbs. Same when you take the carbs apart to clean them and you should`nt have a problem. It is a real good idea to change all of the fuel lines while your at it. Good Luck
