Going to Port A this weekend. We'll be doing a guided bay trip on Sunday and a 11.5hr offshore trip on Tuesday, but my brother and I want to do some fishing at the jetties or pier while we're down there as well.

How successful are artificials off the jetties? Should we fish the jetties or the piers? Would it just be better to bottom fish with cutbait/shrimp?

Thanks for the help!

You've got a few variables not in your favor--front just blew through down there and full moon on Tuesday. Fishing could be a little challenging, but just go out and grind anyway and you'll catch a few.

As far as lures at the jetties this time of year, I'd throw Spoon'rs (similar to a slab and looks like it's "pimped out" available down there and deadly at jetties/surf). Other than that, like you mentioned natural bait (live mullet, cut mullet, shrimp, etc) will be your best bait. Fish further and deeper for reds and hug the rocks for flounder and mangrove snapper.

Weather should be pretty Sat and Sun.

Good luck!

Red tide is sneaking back in as of yesterday (or what the locals think is red tide) everyone is coughing and choking. Hopefully this north winds pushes it south and out of our hair so we can get some fishing in.

We fished on the pier at the park by the ferry landing. Very slow. Not even a hardhead! We did catch several pinfish and a couple of tiny lane snappers.

Look at the bright side, the weather is beautiful and you got to fish smile

With the front on Thursday, high pressure, and full moon on Tuesday, did you really expect to catch any real fish? That's why they call if fishing instead of catching. Everyday spent on the water is a learning experience. Keep grinding.
