I am new to this forum, and wanted to ask if anyone could please steer me toward a fishing experience for my 15 year old daughter and I in the Austin area on Sunday November 1, 2009? This is basically a father/daughter activity prior to checking out UT admissions on Monday. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are looking for an expert guide, contact Ray Austin at 512-663-7166. He may be able to help.

I appreciate the referral. I may call him. I know the guides typically are booked up though, so I was really looking for a good place for us to go on our own.

If you are around the UT area, you might want to rent a kayak/canoe and fish in LadyBird Lake (Town Lake). Go to austinbassfishing.com or austinkayakfishing.com for info.

That'd prob be the best/most fun thing for you two to do, yeah. There's like 3 places you can rent canoes/yaks from, that are just a hop, skip and jump from downtown and right now, you can find good fish right off the bank so just target some of the many laydowns/rocks you can find between the Lamar/Railroad Bridge and Red Bud (the westernmost part/end of the lake).

That does sound fun. We can stay in the Hyatt on Town Lake. I had also thought of staying at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort at Cedar Creek, but they don't seem to have any fishing available.

I hope you fish with more stealth and subtlety than you seek females. You might actually have luck with fish if they can't see you first, and once they do they can't get away.

There is a large concrete almost loading dock looking area that sits directly on the river in back of the Lost Pines resort. There is a small floating pier tied up right next to it, but my boy and I found the concrete pier more comfortable due to the serrated surface of the floating pier when using folding chairs to sit in.

The only downside to fishing at Lost Pines when staying as a guest is that they request no fishing after dark (I'm sure for liability reasons). Sunrise and sunset are good times for bass, but I've always caught Colorado river cats at night.

Lake Bastrop (NOT within the state park) is not far away.

Great tip. Thanks. What do you suggest in terms of tackle and bait?
