 Using a timer to charge batteries

Anybody ever use a simple plug in timer to keep your boat batteries charged. I bought one and have it set to run 15 minutes per day. Anything negative about doing this?

Not really, unless you are using a 50 amp charger.  If it's a 6-10 amp, no sweat. If it's 2-4 amps...make it 30 min to an hour a day just to maintain it. But bring your trolling motor batteries all the way up, non stop as soon you get back from fishing. They last longer that way. Then you can trickle charge it with the timer.

You should be fine- I have a freind who has his on board charger set up on a timer & it's working fine for him  Thinking of doing the same

I use a timer and set it for 30 minutes a day. It works fine. I wish that I could find one that could be set for a day or two a week for 2 hours or so.

Thanks everybody!
I did bring the batteries all the way up after my last trip and now have the on-board charger plugged into the timer to maintain.
Works great so far, I would recommend it. Just a simple $7.00 Brinks plug in timer from Wal-Mart.

I do the same thing!
Timer comes on once a week for four hours and keeps all three of the batts topped off!
Cheap insurance against leaving the charger plugged in 24-7.
Just my .02!
