I've been wanting to get over to Tawakoni at night to do some blue cat fishing. But, as usual...things always seem to be something to come up last minute which never let me go.

Looked outside about 5p.m. yesterday afternoon and it was just a sheet of rain, w/ big north winds...thought to myself: hmmm, perfect weather for some catfishing! wink

Called up my buddy Javier, he got the hall pass and away we went. Got to the ramp at 7:15 (it was already dark) and realized I totally forgot the shad. So, spent the next 15 minutes gathering bait (din't take long). Lake was totally socked in w/ almost NO visibility...thank God for electronics. Ran totally on GPS about 3 miles to our first spot and got NOTHING. First spot was in shallow water and while there is a ton of bait shallow right now, I couldent find fish with them. Moved to our 2nd spot and that was the ticket...found fish in 38ft of water. I caught them different than I had before...I kept seeing large fish on the sonar suspended at about 28ft. So, took some fresh cut shad and put bait at that depth, I knew they were big fish so I set my clickers even though I was fishing straight down. It worked better than I thought it would...

We caught several w/ 45lbs being the largest.

Just a quick note about rain gear...spending good money on high quality Gore-Tex is the difference in being dry and happy or miserable. thumb

Good Luck out there this Fall and Winter...catching these big guys sure is a lot of fun! thumb

Yep...all fish that we caught were suspended 20-30ft in almost 40ft of water... thumb

In the open water like that, we didn't miss a fish. Seems like they take the bait better than from off the bottom. You could stick'em really good as they ran off w/ the bait.

Nice haul. I've never tried fishing for suspended kittys but it looks like it paid off for you. Good job. flehan

That is just way to cool!! Were you anchored or drifting at the second stop? You make this look easy.

We were anchored up. Normally I use two anchors but it was too rough so just used one. Actually, it allowed us to cover a little more water because the boat slowly swayed back and forth about 15-20ft. With it being pitch black dark, the clickers helped us know when we had a bite...sometimes I had to feel the bails to see which one it was... LOL

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Big Net

Should have seen us trying to get that fish in the boat without a light and net, LOL....memories, right? laugh
