well went out this morning, knowing that the wind was gonna kick up. woke the wife up at 5:00 since she said she wanted to go. but for some reason she thought that the bed was a better place, so off i went by myself, my dog didn't even want to go (should of known, the animals have the six sense thing). got out there with a half pound of minnows, and launched at 730a. hit the spot that i thought was gonna work. lake was like glass. within 5 mins, had 3 decent crappie. thought that it was gonna be a good day. at least i wasn't gonna get skunked. then it happened. the wind started to blow lightly. said to myself "myself, if the wind gets bad i can rough it out." well that didn't last to long. water temp was 53. at first the wind was light then harder and harder. about 50 boats were out there. pretty soon, here they come heading back in to shore. started white capping, think that there was one more that i could get. momma didnt raise no fool. was always taught, if it starts white capping, get off the lake. had a rough time getting close to shore. even with the wind at my back, the waves were rough goning back in. ending back by lookout point, the wind eased up a bit, so i threw a line out. caught 2 more within 10 min. of each other, then said i had enough of the waves. ended the day at 10am. what i thought was funny was as i was loading the boat up, people were still launching to go out. ended up with 10 crappie, with total weight of fillet cut up about 5 lbs. not to bad. looks like the cold weather moved the crappie around. gonna head out in the morning, suppose to be cold, which i dont mind cause i have a nice dual heater that santa brought me. so if you ever on lake o the pines and you see a fool out there with a dual heater attached to a propane tank, then stop by and say hi. cool

Fishnuker, Thanks for the lake o Pines report... Dont see LOP reports here or anywhere else very often.. I was there today but not fishing... Saw about 30 boats from the overlook area... Watched for some time but saw no one catching... Went down to the spillway to check it out... They are letting out more water as the channel was up about two feet higher than last monday when I fished (caught nothing)... Saw no one catch anything today... Plan on fishing somewhere tue/wed dont know if it will be LOP... Maybe a creek like little cypress... Stopped and looked at it at hwy 450 sure looked good, no one else fishing there today...

ill be back out there sat wind rain or snow(unless i have to work). i think they are about to bust loose out there. i noticed that they are letting a little less water out than a couple of weeks ago (it was flow out to the top of the rocks). went to perky monday, didnt catch much, thinking about gilmer, i really like that lake. we might have to hook up sometime and trade gps sites or swap stories.

Gilmer lake, hey, not far away! Haven't tried crappie there. Fished bass for a while after it opened and they got too hard to catch so quit going. Did catch a ton of really small crappie the one time I tried, that was a couple of summers ago. Thought, "I'll be back for you when you grow up." But I never did. Got into the habit of going to other lakes. Where do you think would be a good part of the lake to try now?

Went to LOP with my brother today... He wanted to fish for catfish... We started at noon, left at about 4:15... Not the best time to fish for much of anything... Used some chum and caught 6 nice size channel cats, lost a couple more... Fished in the trees/stumps between Copeland creek and Island View in 27/30 feet water... No other boat in area...

Got word that the spillway has greatly reduced out flow... Dont know how many crappie fishermen were out in front of the dam, but there were about 10/12 boat trailers at Island view when we got there at noon... Think you may do well Sat. if fishing for crappie, best of luck anyway...

I ate some my neighbor brought me and they were so good, it makes me want to put away the bassn' gear and get out the ultra light and skip work. I fried them in the BPS Hot N' Spicy batter, very tasty!
