Planning on fishing throughout the winter but want to know what I need to do to my motor in between trips for winterization? I have an 01 Optimax 225 if that matters.

run stabil marine check and make sure there is no water in the gearcase tilt engine dowm

you should crack the drain screw on the tower unit to check for water or you can bust a gear case

where is the drain screw typically located? Your talking about a different screw than the flush screw correct? I would assume it is near the bottom of the lower unit but want to make sure it is the right one

I always go ahead and change the lower unit oil before the first frost, just to make sure there's no water in it.

screw is on the very bottom of your motor.yes on the tilt to drain water out of motor I drop mine down while buckling it up to trailer. then when at home I lower it agin until the next trip.

This is all I do, tilt engine down so that the water will grain out of the gearcase.

put the marine stabil in the fuel and run some in the engine

Like said above just tilt he motor down so the water will drain out and you will be fine.
