Say you see a hole (opening) in some grass that looks like a great spot for a bass to hang out or you see an active bass in the spot. If you pitch a jig in and get nothing, is that hole ruined to try throwing something else in right afterwards? I have heard that if the fish isnt going to react to something that falls in the water right infront of him, he is prolly going to become spooked or he isnt going to react anyways. How true is this? Do you try a different bait in an area that your are pretty sure has a bass after you have already attempted another bait there 2 min ago? Or is it useless.

Ditto... 2 or 3 casts with the primary lure, then give him the change-up.

A follow up pitch to the same opening might be to let the bait enter the opening & only let it drop 6 inches or a foot & shake it up against the bottom of the mat (trip ratlbac) for 5 sec & pause then drop it.

I have seen pros pitch to the same spot several times with the same bait before they got bit.
I saw KVD throw a spinner bait by a log 12 times before the fish bit.

Depends on how active the fish are. If the fish are really active that day and you've been catching them consistently with this pattern, your time is probably better spent moving on to the next spot and trying to get that reaction strike.

If thats not the case, then yes, if the spot is good enough - try multiple presentations.

When we are punchin grass we go as fast as we can. One person flips on each side. Once you get a bite ill kick a marker out and do circles.

+1 on the follow up senko... also in my book if it's good enough to pitch to once it's good enough for two pitches

Heavy weight for reaction bite. If it doesn't work try a slow falling (senko, beaver)type bait. The big fat ones may not want to move as much...lol

I think it depends on water temp, time of year, weather conditions, type of cover. I always make at least 2 pitches to what I consider good cover and change up the presentation slightly. Very good looking cover I will make up to 4-5 into the same general area.

Depends on the size of the cover too. A large limb or a small stump? The hole in the grass will get the treatment described by the others and maybe a frog twitched over it, or settled over it a time or two during cloudy or low light situations.

I think this subject is my greatest weakness. I'll make one pitch to a target and never a second one. Years ago I was the AOY for my club and my partner came in second. Every time your back seat man catches a fish proves to me that I was working too fast and fished right by that fish. I know I need to slow down.. that's my biggest mistake.

Got it right

Your asking a couple different questions. when your flippin grass you go and go and go till you catch one then you can milk that spot with different stuff. But if you fish grass and there is acres of it find the active fish. When you see guys throw over and over again its on isolated stumps logs brush or cause they KNOW there are fish there that is different. just cause a hole looks good in the grass dosen't mean there are fish there.
