My wife and I went back to the bridge just north of the Pecan creek ramp. We got out there around 12 and stayed under the bridge fishing the pillers till around 6. We caught about 50 crappie with 20 being keepers. Alot of the ones that we threw back were in the 8-9" range. There was a pretty big storm that rolled in around 2 or 3. We tied off under the bridge and kept on fishing. We caught most of the fish on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th row of pillers on the east side of the bridge. We have been having good luck in that same area for 2 weeks. I think we are going to try the summerged timer on the north side of that bridge. I think we would find larger crappie around that.

Chuck,

Would you check my post on crappie 101 and email me or respond? You are clearly someone I can learn from. I would like to take my girls out there next weekend and round up some slabs for a nice fish fry. Not to mention that they would have a ball catching that many fish in a morning.

Thanks again,

Shawn

Chuck,

You've found a good spot... For some reason, when the lake is high those crappie will stack along those bridge pillars on lone oak road from Late May until the end of June or so, but with this cool summer who knows how long they'll be there...

If you see a canoe with two round fellas in it fishing one of your pillars, stop and say hello

I went back to the bridge for a couple of hours late this afternoon. It was pretty windy out there. I only went to a couple of the pillers. I caught only 2 crappie and 1 small catfish. One of the crappie was the heaviest I have ever caught or seen. It was around 3 lbs. It was fat. When I hooked it, I thought I had hooked up with a bass.

It sounds like they are talking about Ray Roberts.

Is it possible to fish this bridge area from the bank? I don't have access to a boat, but would like to try my "minnas" at Ray Roberts. If there isn't a bank fishing area by this bridge, can you tell me if there is a fishing barge?

Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to provide.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday!
Nancy

I just looked at the lake record for a white crappie on RR and I think I screwed up by not getting that huge crappie weighed on certified scales. I think that I would have been real close to breaking the record of 3.09lbs. I think that we are going to try out there again tonight. Oh well, we got some huge fillets from that fish! Granny, yes you can go to either side of the bridge and fish under the bridge.

Hey chuck. I try to fish that bridge whenever I can and usually do really good. The last time I went i fished the first pillar and managed 11 sandbass,10 crapie, and lost count of all the drum. All on minnows. My best friend is coming to town next weekend and he's never fished for crapie so i figured I'd take him out there at night and hopefully catch some crapie and sandbass. Have a safe weekend and have fun at the lake.
