I have several yellow majics. I like their action, tail, and the way it sits in the water. It is easier to buy an expensive topwater. There is less chance of loosing it than an underwater lure.

I've used Yellow Magic's for years and they produce fish. I've only lost one..... to a powerline LOL. I change the hooks from time to time and they keep on catching bass. Think of it as an investment, because it's a lure that will last.

I agree, they are different and usually better. I throw YM's and Rico's, and believe in them wholeheartedly. Oh and as above says, Alewife, and I also like Tenn. shad color. They catch fish!!

If you compare how much you spend on plastics like flukes or senkos I'm sure it will cost you more than a yellow magic. When the fish are biting I will go thru $30.00 or more a day on senkos. I have had the same yellow magics for 10 years.

want to talk about exspensive. i love the yellow magic and rico. sad thing is my confidence color is a custom paint job. so that yellow magic is now $26 and the rico is $34. but i catch alot of fish on them so it is definitely worth it.

A yellow magic sinks down in the back so the feathers are below the bait. A pop-r just floats on top of the water. I think having those feathers hanging down makes it look like a frog or something floating with its nose out of the water.

That's a good way to look at it. There are days I've been through two bags of Yamamoto's only to go buy more for the next time. Putting it in perspective I spent 12 bucks on those bags of plastics that are gone and never come back. A Yellow Magic will last and last and last, until a fish steals it wink

I placed an order for two Alewife 1/2 oz Yellow Magics just this morning....I wish ya'll would quit bringing up baits that I don't have...just last week I bought some Lucky Craft Pointer 100 jerk baits for the same reason...And someone was right, I'm sure I've spent a lot more on GY Senkos than I'll spend on yellow magics and LC Pointers...also had to get some 6" Flutter Spoons. I confess to being a tackle junkie!

Well it depends on how the fish want it. I start out letting the bait sit for a little while after the splash. I work it fairly quickly with short jerks of the rod tip most of the way back to the boat. If that doesn't work, I will work it slower with pauses in between the short hops. Sometimes the fish want it sitting still for a while.

They work very well. Try Fun n Sun in Hurst, they have the cheapest price I have seen on them $13.99 last time I looked.

I schooled 2 pro anglers and a guide thorwing a YM against their Pop-R's. The couldn't believe it. Gary, I have 7 of the 3/8's and someone offered me $150 for each one of them. They are a BIG FISH BAIT and you better not thorow it on less than 20# test. I bought the last of the 3/8's models from Mustang Resort in 2000 or 2001 for $13 each. I gave one to a professional angler and he has won over $24000 on that bait this year. His partner hates him, because he can't get a 3/8's. The belly is a little concave, much different than the Pop-R and that is just ONE of the things that make it a much different bait.

Wish I cuold tell you exactly what the bait can do different than a Pop-R, but I cannot, you have to see it in action. Unfortunately, I have, like, 27 of them, but they are worth the price to me.

Oh, the guy with the $150 each for the price tag, he is a MAJOR ELITE BASS Angler that almsot everyone knows his name. If HE is willing to pay that price, what do you think the baits are wworth? He fishes for a living and he wants them bad enough to pay that price, because they stopped making them and they are WORTH IT! I may give him one for free, but I will not sell them, well, if someone offered me $1000 each, I would sell a couple of them, I guess. If you have never experienced the bait, I feel apathy for you that you haven't had the pleasure. In 2000, I won a 2 day team T by myself on only 5 fish. 10.48 came on a scum frog, but the two 8's, the 6 and the 5 came on the 1/4 oz. YM (a friend had given me for Christmas). So, 37.82 worth of bass is good enough for me to believe in them, whoops, minus 10.48, but that is STILL a good average.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thad Rains

Thad,

I've got about 20 of the old 3/8 oz. ones. You tell that guy that if he wants some for $150 a piece, call me up because I'll sell him some at that price. PM me and I'll give you my number to give to him.
