Sounds pretty good to me if it is good condition. I think you should test cast it to see if the braking system is working. I got my Antares DC7 for about $480, but the Calais were higher priced. I traded a good price for no warranty. I would mount it on a high end MH rod. I usually use mine with my Cumara.

and does anybody know if its a high maintenance reel?

If the reel has the right setting on it it well be hard to backlash unless you do something stupid. I have five of them and a tc?de that is by far my favorite.I agree dont put this reel on anythink but high end rod .Enjoy

Thats the one that runs about 650 bucks new right? If its in mint condition I guess 400 is a good price for it.I do agree with the other guys about the rod.Buy the best you can afford to put it on.As far as the breaking system goes, you should never backlash this reel.

and does anybody know if its a high maintenance reel? Almost zero maintenance. Just a drop of oil once a year. You can buy them NIB off ebay for $490, so you might want to consider that.

And if i go out to the beach, will this work in saltwater well or are there any corrosion issues?

The DC prices were $479 and $489 shipping included. His prices flucuate depending on how many he has in stock. http://cgi.ebay.com/09-New-Shimano-Calai...=item53dcfcfa2b

My friend 1FisherJZ has one and i have tried to take it from him but he always catches me. I should have never thrown his cause now all i want is a Calais DC. They rule.

Thanks "Donegone". This is my 1st transaction with them and your comment makes me feel "at ease". Thanks. I also have a G. Loomis GLX BCR874 on its way from NODAKSPORTS. $395 retail and they are selling for $280. (That's ridiculously low).

I have the Shimano Calcutta DC. Same digital control in it. And the best way to know if it is working right is cast it. It will sound like an electric motor kind of sound. If your not apposed to a round reel, it's cheaper and just as smooth. They have been on sale at Academys.
