I dont smoke. But several that I fish with do. What do MOST people do with thier buts? All the guys that I fish with throw them in the water. They may as well put them out in my ear! This aggrivates me. I know it has little impact on fish, but they have to wash up somewhere. If you smoke, and the guy you were fishing with asked you not to throw the buts in the lake would it bother you? Am I out of line to want these guys to drop them in a can or dipose of them in a way where people wont have to deal with buts washing up on thier waterfront home?

When I smoked I always chunked the butts in the water. Never thought much about it.

Just want to say I agree with not littering the waters! I smoke and I do throw my butts in the water. But butts are fiber strands held together by a paper wrap When the wrap get wet it will start to come unwrapped. Once the wrap comes off the filter the fiber stand fall apart. Fishing line last 50 time longer in the water than a butt. Good point though! I would not be affended if you ask me not to throw them in the water but would probably still do it! Just my thought!!!!

I smoke. i put them out in the water and then put them in my pocket or in a can if I have one. I throw a few in the lake in certain situations, but not many.

People ask about smoking when they get on the boat. I keep two "sand cans" on board for it. I REALLY dislike butts floating around my home lake.

This is incorrect. They just picked up 94700 buts at one of the great lakes. I doubt all these were fresh. What about when fish eat them? What about the birds? I wish there were a way to ticket people who do this.

I remember someone telling me that it takes many years for a cigarette to decompose.... this is what i got when i looked it up just now...
."A cigarette takes 3-10 months to mostly decompose and some say it can take up to as much as twelve years; however, the filter which is made of acetate will NEVER fully break down.".....Ask.com.....
I try too put mine in my pockets...even though the wife yells at me when i forget too take them out and there all over in the dryer....lol....I'm no saint though...i've thrown them in the water when i wasn't thinking about it....

I am not a smoker but, my old fishing partner was. I never thought much about it until a friend of mine told me that it could be a polygraph question. Because one of the questions that is always asked. Did you abide by all parks and wildlife rules, and the anwser should have been no.. Littering is a violation, wether it is food trash tossed into the lake or cigarett butts..

How many plastic worms, jigs, etc, have you left in the lake for the sake of saving time? Not including the lead and fishing line. And you want to pick on your "fishing partner" for some butts? Take the polygraph now.
