Was at the marina (west side) for a few hours (a few dinks), then went to 3004 (or is it 3044?) across the N end of the lake (nada, zilch, zero), then finally went to this place (think it was some guy named Roller) where you go south on 3422 from 3004 and didn't find some campground that he noted. It was just open lake with alot of wind. Needless to say, it was a wasted morning of more exploring than anything. Bottom line: it sucked! I thought about going into Pecan Creek park, but by then, it was noon and just decided to come home (since I had an hour drive). That's life. --Eric AgAlum93'

Riverotter, just finished 3 solid weeks up on RR, was avg. 21 nice crappie a day mostly in 1-3 ft of water, had to move around a good bit as the winds kept changing, but that seemed to be the best bet. Up the river above 922, they were stacked until that last front , you may want to check it out after this front moves on, also limits of blues, channels, and sandies were being pulled out, best luck lately has been jigs w/ pink heads and blk/chr body, good fishin, Pomoxis

BigCat - Cates Point is the main lake point seperating both arms of RayBob. The point and cove takes a little adventure hiking but is beautiful this time of year.
The name of the old campground is Tejas. If you will yahoo map Sanger, TX and then zoom in on the area of Cates Point, you can find the roads that get you to the campground. The road dead ends at a private drive. There is a cable over the road that leads to the old campground and you need to park there and walk the road. The road will circle to the east past the campground, but continue heading south and you will find the cove.
There is also an old road that heads west once you get to the campground and it leads you to the west side where the gravel and rock ledges are.
It takes a little time following the roads off 3002 but the yahoo map will get you there.

Yeah,
I came to the "T" on the private drive, turned right, zig-zagged a few turns, then came to a dead end with a gate where you can walk along an old dirt road southward. I went to where the water was, but nothing but the east bank of the main lake. Wasn't blaming ya, just was dissappointed and realized I probably hadn't found the spot you were talking about.
I did search a little bit on the "private" drive back east where a tree sat in the middle of the road, but it dead-ended at a private ranch.
Anyhoo, I appreciate the feedback Roller and will do a search as you stated on MapQuest or Yahoo. Thanks.

I did MapQuest, Yahoo, And Google maps and they show the roads, but no old park/campground or any detail when you zoom in. I recognized the cemetary (you see it if you take a left at the "T" when 3422 dead ends on the private drive).
I see if you go further east from 3422 there's a lake park, but that's about it. I tried.

Eric,
Me and my brother also looked for Cates point with no luck. I think we got confused at the same area as you. We probably spent an hour walking the bank looking for the point, and had no luck. However, we found quite a few nice lures laying along the bank in that area.
The past couple weeks seem to have been tough on raybob. Two weekends ago, me and my brother did decent in the mornings, and I figured the spawn would be really good last weekend. However, my dad and bro went out last weekend and couldnt catach any crappie (but they found some sandies, bass and catfish). I am heading home from college again this friday, so I am sure I will be out there saturday or sunday. I will make sure to let you know how I do.

Thanks Dice. I'll try to find the campground again. I didn't take the last left before the "dead end", so may do that and check out the other "dead ends" to see if I see this cable Roller mentioned. If not, 922 is just a little further north and some guys say they've done good above that little bridge.
If not, there's always LL or Weatherford Crappie Houses. But yeah, let me know if y'all do any good or find this place near Cates Point.

The house and private drive will be on the right when you hit the end of the road. There is a circle turn around where the cable crosses the road. You will know it is an old campground because the old facilities are still there (picnic tables, covered area, electrical, water hookups, etc.). I'm not sure why they let this place go.
The sign at the main part of the old campground said Tejas and I think it was for large groups or corporate parties. A very secluded spot and would be a great getaway.
If you have a RR map look at the point that divides both arms of the lake. It is the main point due north of the dam. There is a cove going back north from the end of the point. The lake map I think shows the roads to get to the old campground.
I'll do some searching on the web to see what I can find. When you find it you will know what I mean by all the facilities still in place.

I will be going out there this weekend after the rain. I will check these directions and report back on Monday. If you ever find this place you will be plesantly surprised.
Take 3442 south off 3002. At "T" turn right. There will be 3 - 90 degree corners. Take a left on Arkansas Hill. 1 more 90 degree corner. At "T" turn left on Fairview Circle. This road will dead end. Park and walk old state park road to old campground.

Roller22,
I did everything right, but screwed up on the take a left on Arkansas Hill (I went straight instead where it dead ends into a gravel circle). I appreciate the extra instructions.
By the way, did you do any good last weekend after I storms (I worked that caused me to work from 9p-9a on my midnight shift instead of the usual 12a-8a)?
