Its too cold if your toes start hurting, up until that happens I'm good to go....

it all depends on how the fish are biting. it could be 20 degrees but if they are biting, it sure doesn't feel like it.

Yea I am good till my feet get cold too. I will fish any any temp though. Last Thursday morning I was breaking the ice off my rod guides and spinning reel, but the wind was calm which makes a big difference in how it feels.

Caught yellow perch, crappie and an occasional walleye in -25 air temp, with a wind chill close to -40 in Minnesota WAY BACK IN THE DAY, So you tell me how cold is cold!

CAught a truckload of crappie here in dallas last week during "ARCTIC BLAST 2005", which compared to the above, was downright balmy!!
Have caught them in 26 degree weather in an ice storm; have caught them with a fire on the bank, in snow showers; have caught them with negative wind chills, with steam rising out of the water on a power plant lake, and chipping ice off the rod's eyes; have caught them when waves swept over the bow of the boat and the water froze on contact, out on Texoma, so you tell me how cold is too cold! BTw, that day the stripers were extremely eager to find out what the inside of my 48 qt ice chest looked like, and i was more than willing to oblige them.
Crappie in snow showers was probably the fastest action on slabs though! My dad and I would chunk the minnow/bobber into the current of a creek that could not have been more than 4 ft deep, release enough slack to make it back to the fire, take up the slack, set the hook, and reel em in! They bit that fast!! And as a sidelight, caught a plane that next morning out of DFW to the SuperBowl down in houston,(one of the first flights out of DFW EVER!) to see Minnesota and Miami play. If memory serves correct, that was Super Bowl VIII, in Rice Stadium. Miami won! Griese, Csonka, Kiick, Morris, and the "no name defense"; Minnesota with Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, though not the original "Purple People Eaters" Defense, still a pretty good unit, but they got manhandled by that Miami O Line!!
Good times!
Rudy

Never gets too cold for the fish, just the "Fishermen". Fish don't feel the cold the same way we do. Their body temp is the same as the water temp. Their metabolism does slow down as it gets colder so they feed less often. Some fish can't tolerate water below a certain temp (shad for example) so most go deeper in the colder weather and the game fish follow. (doesn't make sense to me since we all know that very shallow creeks also are full of Crappie in winter and so the shad must also be there). So based on my convoluted thinking today would be a good day to fish. Am I going? Hell no, it's too cold.
