Was given this reel by my friends dad. Had southwestern parts go through it and cleaned it up. Loaded it with 130lb mono. Needs to have a large seat to fit the reel. Looking to take this offshore and have it ready for a big shark, grouper, aj or whatever shows up. Anybody have an OK shape stout rod for sale. Doesn't have to be pretty, just functional.

Joe

Joe, look at the heavy Shakespeare Tidewater,BTW56-SURR, 50-130# class. Academy has them for around $50 IIRC. It's solid fiberglass, roller tip and stripper guides. Don't know about the reel seat. But I don't think you could break it if you tried.

Academy here in Lewisville has nothing Saltwater!! I might try Bass Pro or Cabellas and see what they have. Surely someone has something collecting dust. I have the rod that came with it but it needs all new guides. They are falling off.

I tried one of the extra-heavy Tidewaters with my old Senator 9/0 a few years back & the reelseat isn't broad enough. Also doesn't have a place to mount the reel brace. Settled on a Penn International with a brace mounting forward of the reelseat.

Ditto on Cabelas. I probably passed you there Trlrman. Crappy offshore line selection (they seem to love Power Pro there). Only decent chunking hooks were owner and not a big selection even then. No solid rings (not carried in stores is what the SP said), no heavy # splits. Not impressed.

Hey Hamster,
What pound class rod is it? I would like to take a look at it to see if it will fit my reel. The reel seat is fairly large and long. My cell is 214-704-7406 and I am in Corinth.

Daiwa Beefstick? I rebuilt one (50-130 lb.) with Stuart rollers, Amtack aluminum seat, Aftco tip, Aftco gimbal and new grips. VERY STRONG rod.
