Do you ever see anyone with one of those in Bed campers - a smaller one - down on the PINS beaches?? That would be the height of "luxury" I would think. Have a tank of Fresh water aboard and a small pump for a shower at days end and a generator for A/C and a comfy bed for the night. I think I better look for a V-8 4x4.

Have you priced those slide-in campers? They cost as much or more than a regular travel trailer or 5th wheel. Most of them require at least a long bed 3/4 ton truck too. Very heavy.

Just looking for an older one that I can refurbish. The only HARD Requirement is it not being smoked in - Dear Wife has asthma. One will come along in this economy where someone needs to get out from under one and it will come cheap(er).

I have changed my choice of trucks - looking for either a F-150 4x4 kingcab with the small v-8, or possibly the same in an F-250. As with the camper - one will happen along one of these days and I will jump on it.

I have been running a Lance 820 for 5 years. We love it! It is fully self-contained with a 3-way fridge/freezer, shower, toilet, 40 gal. fresh water, three burner stove, generator, AC, furnace, ect.

My wife never hesitates to go anywhere with it.

It is heavy, but I have my Dodge set up to handle it. I run airbags and 19.5" wheels and tires. I have never been close to being overweight with that tire set-up.

We have spent 100's of nights in it along the TX coast along with two extended trips down the Baja penisula.

People stop us all the time wanting to check out the rig on the beach.

Here are a few pics:

It doesn't matter how cold it gets, how hard the wind blows, how hot it is, or how hard it rains...we always stay comfortable.

Good luck on your search for a truck camper.

Let me know if you have any questions in your search.

Cheers,

tp

Nice Rig, maybe a wee bit bigger than I am looking for though. I don't want one that extends much past the back of the truck, if at all. I will keep looking and something will turn up - always does.

Nice rig waverider!

I sold my last travel trailer to get a slide in camper. I was floored when I found out how much they cost, I had no idea. Occasionally you can find them here on the forums and on rvtrader for a good price. Sure is nice to pull a boat and have a place to sleep! Good luck

That was one of the main selling points for me. I wanted to be completely self-contained with a 4X4 platform.

I can pull my boat to the coast and launch w/o ever putting the truck into 4WD, haul my dirt bike trailer to go racing on the weekends, or strike off to Baja for a month with my wife.

Cheers,

tp

I bought a used 2002 Capri off craig list this spring for 2000.00 shower, queen size bed, stove, ref, sink. A 3/4 ton would handel it fine.
