Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the Texas Fishing Forum!

I was wandering if anyone knows the name of the aquatic plant growing in Lake Fork?It is growing along the shoreline and extends several feet from the shore. It is a floating plant and has large green leaves and purple blooms. When the wind is blowing hard you see can large patches drifting across the lake especially in the Birch Creek area.Is the Sabine River Authority planning to try to controll it?

Thank In Advance!

JDY

I remember one of my first posts I put was about a small patch on a main lake cove I found and did not get much response. I went out the other day since spring in the back of a cove and could not beleive how much was covered with it. I think this is a major problem. It has no where to go but just move around.

With all the rain, running water and the change in wind direction huge rafts are blowing all over the lake. Looks like small islands every where.

I don't know about Fork, but if you can figure-out how to fish through it, mats of that stuff can hold some slobs.

I don't know if there is a spray that will kill it. In Florida they draw down the lakes to control it. When it dies they bring the lake back up. At least that is how it is done on the Topo chain.

The use of herbicides to control water hyacinth is common. Westerdahl and Getsinger report excellent control of water hyacinth by the use of the aquatic herbicides 2,4-D or diquat.
