I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 98 200 OPTI THAT IS ARCING THRU THE PLUG WIRES AT THE PLUG. IT IS ONLY ON THE PORT SIDE. HE HAS CHANGED THE COILS, PLUG WIRES AND THE PLUGS. IT WILL RUN GOOD FOR A WHILE AND THEN START MISSING AGAIN. ARCING THRU THE WIRES AT THE PLUGS. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO NEXT? THANKS IN ADVANCE. JERRY

One possible cause is that the Port side windings of the stator has shorted causing high ignition voltage. Look at stator for hot spot and weeping of insulation. Only other time I have seen spark jump like your talking about was from a bad power-pack.

THE STATOR WAS THE FIRST THING I WAS GOING TO CHECK WHEN HE BRINGS IT IN. I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT ANY THING ELSE IT MIGHT BE TO CAUSE EXTRA HIGH VOLTAGE AT THE PLUGS. I DIDN'T CONSIDER THE POWER PACK, BUT I WILL CHECK. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. JERRY

As from the other post. It could be the sparkplugs have boken down from being in there too long.
