Has anyone been catching crappie in the austin area by bank fishing? I hear that Grnager is usually a pretty good lake, but im not familiar with it. Im willing to go as far as abiut 80 miles from Austin. I usually fish somerville but its way too low and no one has really had much luck out there recently. I hear Gerogetown is a good lake as well, but i hear you need a boat to get to all of the good spots. However i dont know anyone with a boat so i am stuck with bank fishing for now.

I beg any of you please help me, i wnat to get my girlfriend into fishing, so any information to put me on some Crappie would be greatly appriciated...

We caught a mess of crappie and whites tonight even though the action was not what some would consider fast and furious. It was steady till about 8:00 and then shut off.

To catch fish, you have to go where the fish are. They move around depending on time of year, etc. Or, you need to find a way to draw them in to where you are.

I would say you would need to find an area with a nice deep drop off with brush or artificial reef.

Do some searches and reading on this site. Many good folks here post very good info on locating, attracting, and catching quality fish.

I'm not a pro, just an avid fan of this site and have learned a bunch in my short time stalking crappie.

Granger is probobly the best known crappie lake around here, but don't let that stop you from trying others. I catch crappie in lakes that aren't supposed to have lots of crappie in them.

Like RAM said, search the site for information, there is tons of stuff about central texas lakes.

ive been catching a bunch of crappie on LT lately, around 25-30 feet deep. Blacks during the day on white jigs, and white crappie at night. the whites seem to be running a bit smaller than the blacks but there are still some good ones. fishing the crappie mansions help as well. white bass show up around midnight under the lights, and black bass have been very thick. landed 2 greenfish that were 3+ lbs, and quite a few 15-16". shad is easily caught around minor dock lights.

I found some fish a couple weeks ago, but haven't been back out under the lights since. I would be very interested in some crappie. I'm probobly going to be out saturday night if the weather will let me. Shoot me an email.

Will....fish the same areas you fished for whites but fish with smaller baits. Have charted fish holding close to the bottom just under where you would normally be getting those whites. As DS said,...20-30 ft.

White jigs have been working well...I fished a Salt & Pepper Silver Phantom bass assassin tiny shad on a wahoo 1/16 oz jig with a red hook and did well on both crappie and whites.

Just drop it down to the bottom and bring it up ever so slowly until you feel that magic tap. If they catch you by surprise, you can feel them suck it in and then spit it out before you can set the hook. What a hoot!

The whites just take off with it and try to take your rod-n-reel right out of your hand.
