Much ado about nothing. It's an alligator for crying out loud, not some man eating martian. People buy lake front property to "get closer to nature" and complain when nature shows up.
Down here alligator are extremely common. They're in all the lakes, rivers, creeks, stock ponds, and even neighborhood ponds. I've seen quite a few crossing the highway between here and Rockport. I've been close to everything from babies to 13-14 foot giants, one night I was fishing a spot and counted 12 sets of red eyes.
Leave the gators alone and they'll do the same.
I only smell like fish cuz I've been fishin...
