ip04, Unless the picture is somehow distorted, I would definately catch-and-keep as many of the crappie like that as I could. Again, unless the pic is fooling us; the head has outgrown the body which is a clear indicator that the pond has too many crappie and not enough food (shad/minnows). By thinning out the crappie (by at least half), you will be able to grow a much healthier bunch of crappie. Good luck in your efforts.

How big is your pond? i have a pond but was afraid Crappie would not live in it becasue it is not very big and get's low in August or os, never goes dry, but gets down to about 3' in depth.

Its a decent size when it is full, I believe my problem is that it is low and has been low for years. It is about half the size it use to be right now.
That is the only crappie I have caught that looks like that. The rest of them look very healthy.

You need some big blues or flatheads in that pond.

Use to have some, I dont think the pond was suitable for them to spawn and they died of old age.
However, I did catch a few small mud cats out of there a while back.

if you catch alot of 6-10in crappie in may, you need to remove 25 fish per acre in the 9-11in range plus any perch you can catch over 3 1/2in. 3 dozen minnows a week plus a scoop of dog food for microorganism growth wouldn't hurt either. make sure there are trees out in the deepest part for sure.

That is one funny lookin' Crappie for sure. Maybe we need to have a TFF bank fishin' party to help out.
