I am having trouble with my engine... please if anyone has any ideas of what this could be please let me know I will try anything it was working fine but we went to the lake last weekend or just to make sure everything was still good and it seems like its only running on 2 cylinders or something... it is like mabye the spark plug wires were dirty so i checked them and one of them was completely green and black so we got a new one and havent tested it since then but I thought mabye it was something else and someone on here could help...
By the way it goes and when I try and give it full throttle it just stays the same speed as when I have it about halfway and used to it would just get up and go on top no problem now it was just kinda sitting there just vrrrrrrrrm lol iono please help
Thanks

I would check out the switch box 1st, fuel pump 2nd, and 3rd, the carbs.

Power Pack would be my first guess. I had it go out recently on my 87 Rude. It would spit and sputter once it was warm and on a hot day it would do it immediatly. Bought one used from EBay for $30 and it has worked great ever since.

That engine, as with most mercs from early 80's to mid 90's, have a two speed stator. It switches around 1800 rpm. I'd bet your problem is in the stator

It's several coils of wire and is located under the flywheel. The flywheel, which has magnets in it, spins around the stator creating AC voltage. This voltage is sent and stored in the switch box until it gets a signal from the trigger, which is also located under the flywheel. The trigger tells the switch box which ignition coil to fire. The coil boosts the voltage up to around 40,0000 volts, and then fires the spark plug. That's pretty much how the ignition system works. Hope this helps !
