I remember today was very cold ,rainy, and windy.. But for the life of me I cant remember how the weather was Thurs thru Sat...Oh well.. I do remember how the fishing was.
water temps have fallen down into the mid to low 70's . Birds are starting to show up on the lake although not alot of them right now.. but they are starting !!
Fish are still all over the flats in 15-30 feet of water. I have twice this week fished in 30-32 feet of water for the first time in a few months, but still for the most part very shallow. Early last week I started fishing a different flat and had ZERO boats within miles of me Mon-thurs...then on fri a few found me and more on Sat.. But today the rain kept most boats off the lake and traffic was pretty much non existant. In fact we saw 3 boats all day today.

This week I have been starting drifts on the flats until I get 2 hookups and then dropping an anchor...As soon as I get 2 fish on and get my anchor down within minutes the fish load up under the boat and its game on for hours. Yesterday I had 2 boats tie up behind me and we all sat there for hours whalling on fish as fast as we could get bait down...Same story all last week...Today was my slowest day all week as we had the same fast action but it only lasted for about an hour and half and all we could managed today was 40 fish...not bad for a slow day smile
Fish quality/size is getting better everyday. Early in the week we were getting mostly small box fish but as the week went on bigger box fish with overs mixed in.
I expect the bigger fish to really start getting active anyday now..Its been a long hot summer and many of the bigger fish are stressed and skinny. All heck oughta break loose any day smile
had a couple good top water days early in the week but havent chunked any since Wed or Thurs. Still too inconsistant for me to hang my hat on everyday but fun when it does work.
Might have been good today with the rain and clouds but didnt have the chance to do it.. Tomorrow gonna start out chunking pencil poppers...Hopefully the rain and cold will have them shallow and active smile
Bottom line is the action is as good as it gets right now and the quality that has somewhat been lacking the last month or so is getting better each day...Gonna get real good from here on thru the end of the year..

JD,

Can you shed a little info. on the area near Platter Flats? I'll be there this weekend for the first time with my 72 yr old father-in-law and want to show him a good top water bite. Is this area good?

Tight Lines!
God Bless

Top water bite today was....if i could spell phenomonal.. i would but since I cant Ill just say it was very very good. I got up at 3am to catch 150 baits and at 9;30am I threw out 150 baits....Never used a single shad today and we had a limit of 30 fish all on top waters fishing windy banks...No fish under 18 inches today.. nothing huge but did have a very large fish break one of the guys off...All fish tween 18-25 inches... Probably my best overal box of fish in a month. pencil poppers, chug bugs,red,blue,chrome... didnt matter...at 10am we left them biting to head to the house. Never made it to my flats area and never caught a fish in more then 3 feet of water all morning.. gotta love the cloudy rainy days.. supposed to be like this all week...man I hope so !!

Fisherman dan.. platter is a good area right now...I havent been there myself because I havent had to go that far but I get numerous reports from guys fishing over there. lots of fish being caught on the river ledges with bait and hearing of alot of top water fish in that area also. let the wind dictate where you fish... when chunking top waters fish the windblown banks... That point on the south side of rock creek across from lakeside park is a good spot...I got a bunch of afternoo top water fish on that point a few days ago.

Brian ..looking forward to seeing you guys...After the trip Ill meet ya on the cabin proch for a cigar smile smile

Great report JD!!!! ...I should have called ya...Mark already chewed me out for not contacting you guys on Saturday. It was my first trip in 2 months and fishing was just a bonus -- great to be back on the lake and we even got a few on lures out west.

See you guys in a couple weeks!!!! ...and I am expecting these fish to be on a serious feed by then...just like you said!!!

We only got three in there this morning. Chased little ones behind the islands. There were some nicer fish on the B.S. flats water was stained though.

Will the stripers hit topwaters into November and December on Texoma, or do they usually just stop around the end of October?
