Is it worked like a buzz bait, pausing it on top of cover?

Many different ways can produce a strike.

fast retrieve over matted cover,

Quick jerks to splash the surface and pause..

I like the "high floater" versions, cuz you can kill it in open holes between lily pads.. and then just hold on for the ride.

Quite versatile little baits. Experiment a little, and see what they want that day thumb

ALSO, dont limit yourself to throwing them over grass, or laydowns etc.. just like a buzzbait, you can pull bass out of more open water as well!

keep rod tip high, then when they hit it, you have to take the time to lower rod tip and set the hook...it makes the 2 second pause it takes for the fish to grab it easier to handle...everyone knows that topwater is exciting, and everyone sets the hook too fast at the beginning....

Gambler and another mfg. make a twin hook specifically for ribbit type frogs. They look like the hooks used on Spro type frogs. They work like a champ. My hook up ratio is 100% since I started using the twin hook a few weeks ago. You still have to pause for a couple of counts after the strike, but w/ two hooks, one of them will find a home!

I was using one last weekend, they would only hit it when I reeled it as fast as I could.

dude, the best time and place to use a ribbit frog is in the morning over shallow underwater vegatation or beside weeds. reel it just fast enough to where it's sort of on top of the water and it's some has some cra-z action.
