+1 for suggestions to try before you decide. I've owned about a dozen boats in my 61 years and I've learned that what folks say about a boat may not be applicable to you or your boating/fishing needs.

I went through a number of water tests before I bought a Mako 191 a few months back. One ride and I knew I that was the boat for me. Looking at it, it was all wrong--deep vee bow. Testing it, I was mistaken. It takes rough water better than any boat I've ridden in. I've burned 12 or 13 gallons in about almost 7 hours of running time, about 2/3 of that on plane. It floats in about a foot of water. Rumor has it that it will jump on plane in 16" of water (It's for sure I'll never know.) This is probably not the boat for you ... we all have different needs.

Shoppping used, I came to the conclusion that carpeted CCs are bad news. All seem to have soft spots in the decks. I don't know if that is due to the carpet glues reaction with the fiberglass, the carpets' staying wet, or what. Be careful. Most of the used CCs I saw had significant deck wear in the helm where the operator's feet rest. A pad in that area might save a large repair bill down the road.

Just recently purchased a Nautic Star 2110 with 150 hp Honda and I love it, no more messy carpet!

I too have a Nitro Bay 2200 center console. I love it. I can get into shallow water anywhere with no problem.

Mines a Promaster 210, solid as can be and can go super shallow with no problem. Runs 40 GPS and thats about all we really need for speed on area lakes. I understand what you mean about the pontoon, not being able to hold and the speed and ride sucks...Another thing you can do is use the "search" on here when you are signed in, there is a ton of info on CC boats on this site, thats what I did before I bought mine, and it was a great help. I think I just typed in center console and it was AWN.

I have a Kenner 2103 and would not trade it for anything. I have tried many cc boats and found that for the money the Kenner was the right choice. This boat weighs 1600lbs and performs like a champ. It is rated for a 225hp motor but when I was shopping most of the Kenners of the same size were all fitted with 150hp motors. I was very skeptical of having an underpowered boat and was able to test drive several models and motors in Shreveport and had a salesman tell me that he and his brother both had the same boat, his 150merc would run the same top end 53mph as his brothers 225merc but he used 1/3 less gas.

I chose the 150 on my boat and have been delighted with how it has performed. With 4 persons on board and 60 gallons of fuel it will run 48mph. It jumps up on plane well and I can troll for 16 hours and use 10 gallons of fuel.

Another thing to consider is the depth of your walk area inside the boat. The kenner 2103 is a deeper boat with sides about 28" deep. Some other models are much shallower and easier to fall out of. The kenner 22' model has an 8" draft and it will float in 8" I assure you.

Dont forget to look at Mako boats. Very well made like the Kenner's and Bluewave.

You might look at the SEA-PRO models also. Ive had several CC, and this new sea-pro relly rides better than anything ive been in, ( next to a falcon)in rough water. The 4-stroke verado is awesome also.

What ever brand you decide on, in my opinion get liner boat, more storage, looks better.

I moved to Houston 6 years ago. When got a little weekend place on Livingston, I knew my little 17' bass boat wouldn't do. It was great for bass fishing on Caddo (it would go into the cypress stands where the fish were), but I had seen Livingston at its worst. I shopped around and ended up with a Kenner 2103, with a 150 Merc. The boat really manages the lake well, and is very dry ... except if I get caught too far from home and have a long headwind ride in. I also bass fish out of the Kenner on the south end of Livingston. I cast to the shallows and points, and work the boat docks with soft plastics. I've caught a bunch of really nice black bass out of it. The sides are high enough that I have to carry a net these days, when I hook a big one, though.

I originaly was looking at the Ranger Bay, but since have decided on the Skeeter Bay. Has the same draft as their bass boats. Awesome all-round fishing boat from what I gather.
