I was getting gas in Bartlett this evening and I happen to see on the counter a warning sign.
It stated that as of Oct 2 they will be required to sell gas that contains at least 10% ethanol. This sounds like bad news to me especially for the boat! I guess I'll be investing in some Staybil marine to fight the ethanol. Is this all of Texas? This gas station is just in Bell county.

I've been running nothing but that E-gas since I bought my boat 2 years ago. I can't find a station that doesn't display 10% ethanol. Just keep a bottle of the Marine Stabil in the boat & treat the gas every time you put gas in it & use your boat as much as possible & you should be good. There may be long term effects that haven't gotten to me yet but so far so good (knock on wood). I even let my boat sit last winter for 2 months w/ about 20 gallons of treated fuel & she ran fine when I got her out on the water. I would definitely not recommend that though. Good luck.

I live in Johnson County (just south of Fort Worth) and its all ethanol here that i have seen. I just add stabil to be safe with every tank full. My gas tank is a 18 gallon tank. For this winter im going to fill it all the way up to the top and add stabil to keep for the winter so that i dont have dead air space in the tank for moisture to collect from the ethanol while im not fishing. Im also going to buy enough portable gas tanks to fill 18 gallons of gas in and when spring time comes, empty all the gas that has been sitting in the boat into these containers to use for my lawn mowers in the spring. That way i can start with a new tank of gas to use in the spring with no worries and i will not have to worry about lawn mower gas for a while. Cause after all, its not going to hurt the lawn mowers and i hate needing to mow and having to run to the gas station because my one small gas container for the lawn mower is always empty when i need it.

Lawnmowers are not going to like it either and it might take a while to burn through 18 gallons in a lawnmower. I am just not going to fill my tanks if I am not planning a fishing trip within a couple of months. You might be better off running the tank as low as possible and then mixing fresh gas with the older. I think it is separation that causes problems with ethanol blends. Also, if you have a older boat with metal tanks than you will have more of a condensation problem. I used to have an aluminum and had problems with it. I have not had water problems with plastic.

All the boats that have come into my shop has 10% E in them, that I have tested. My costomers have bought gas all around San Marcos, Hays Co. all the way to Abilene and as far south as Laredo and over to Port Aransas to Del Rio. Just use Marine Stabil, every tank full.

Not a good idea. Moisture is in the air everywhere. After some time ethanol starts to break down and bond with the moisture in the air pulling it down into the fuel. Moisture accumilated in fuel= water in fuel. Water in fuel= motor problems. If you fill the tank completely there is no dead air space for moisture to be so there for moisture is not absorbed into the fuel. Oh, and the lawn mowers will run fine with the gas.

For the most part I have been able to avoid ehtanol by filling up near Lake Fork. That maybe why I have had no problems. I will just use stabil if I think that I might be leaving gas in the boat for over a month or 2.

Most boats can run 10% ethanol with no problem. If you are just starting out using it, pay particular attention to your gas tank (if fiberglass) and fuel lines.

Install a fuel/water separator with a 10 micron fuel filter. I never put Stabil in my gas until wintertime. I do run a can of Seafoam through it once a month.

Starting this month, I will fill up after every trip, as cooler weather puts more water in the gas tank.

I have a 96 130hp Johnson and have yet to have a problem running 10% ethanol.
