They look cool. Gotta have one to be 'THE MAN' nowadays. If you have two, WOW, you must be a pro.

I don't know. I guess if you can afford it. A good trolling motor might be a better investment.

Although Amistad is a deep lake, they can come in handy. Last year when the wind never stopped blowing I would constantly stick one in the middle of a big tree and fish an area for a while. Would go from tre to tree and it worked great. I would recommend it.

Not a question. Next boat will have two. So easy to stop and hold in position and never touch the trolling motor.

Last boat had one and the new boat has two. I won't own another boat without them.

I am wondering how many times I would use it fishing freshwater?? Saltwater is a no brainer I would get one or two or three in a heart beat BUT freshwater I don't know if its worth my time and money to install one?? I think other products would be better investments....I don't tie off much in 8 feet or less water??
But I don't have one so I really should not answer without being educated! hehehe
Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

Depends on your style of fishing and the lakes you primarily fish. If your a deep water structure fisherman there really wouldnt be a point in having one unless like mentioned above its a lake you can deploy in tree tops to hold you in deep water. For a shallow water fisherman they are a dream come true. My partners boat had a power pole on it, we used it in one way or another everytime we were on the lake.

....I don't tie off much in 8 feet or less water?? thats my concern, how much i would actually use (or need) it? for example, if i am beating the bank then my boat is usually sitting in about 6-10 feet of water... but i'm almost always moving along the shoreline with my trolling motor anyways, so why would i need to stop and put down the power pole? aren't power poles only really useful on about 10% to 20% of the lake anyways??? the only place i've fished recently where i might need a power pole is when i was holding off the side of a wind-blown point, casting into the point from the side closest to shore. but, then again, i held just fine by using the trolling motor. sure it's a little annoying trying to maintain your spot by working the trolling motor. but i'd rather deal with a small headache every now and then, rather than spending $3,000 for a pole on the back of my boat. just seems like common sense boat positioning and some handy footwork with your trolling motor outweighs the need for a $3k pole to hold you in place. for that much money and that little benefit, i'll spend my money on equipment which will help me catch fish. just my opinion.

I agree. I think they would be useful during the spawn when bed fishing but other than that, I'm either working down a bank with the trolling motor or off shore, where the pole would be useless anyway. I woul dhate to be the guy fishing in the back of the boat with those things sticking up (when not in use). It's bad enough when you're trying to fish and cast with a stern light pole sticking up and now you have one more obstacle to contend with. Plus, at the price of $3K, I just don't see it as a good use of funds for the average weekend fisherman. But, if you have the money and feel the need to get more toys to keep up with everyone else, then more power to you. See ya at weighin!

If you can afford it they are nice to have, I don't know where this 3K dollars came from, mine was 2100.00, If I ever get another boat it will have one.

I have two 8 footers on my boat. I love to sight fish and could afford them so why not? They are awesome for that application. Nice to be able to stop and re-tie without drifting, etc. I have used them in deep water in tree tops but only once.
They are a convenience or a luxury, not absolutely necessary equipment. $3000 is way high for one. I got both of mine for not much more than that.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Fouzman is right on..I have one and love it...cost for an 8 footer should not be more than 1400 bucks installed.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Okay, so now we're saying $1,400 to $2,100 is a good price for a glorified electric anchor? Make sure you keep your battery fully charged so you don't run the risk of further draining your battery and not being to start your motor. I think I will stick to the old fashion method of tying a rope to a stump or slowly lowering an anchor down in 4 ft of water. It's been working for 35 years so I guess it will work a little longer. But then again, I still don't use GPS or any other fancy electronics either, lol.
But again, it's your money so spend it as you so choose.
