Saw this on the SI board today and was talking to a friend about the Lowrance today and told him I thought the upgrade/update was around the corner. I tell ya, the images I get already are unbeleivable, I can't wait. 1197 unit owner

Sounds good to me. An upgraded unit with the bugs worked out instead of a brand new unit with who-knows if it works problems. Also Got to be better customer service.

Eddie, I saw a video with a Humminbird rep at ICAST in which he said that the 997 was to receive internal upgrades in the form of faster processors. His explanation was that this would improve response time, screen changes, and map redraws. Can you give us any word on what exactly is being upgraded and when these improved models will hit the stores? Better yet, how will we identify these units when purchasing? the new 998 is suppose to have faster processors. the 997 is plenty fast though.

I know the 797 not being included is a big disappointmet. It was with me as well. If we could have included it we would have. The unit just doesn't have the memory or processors to handle it. That's all I know.

This new sonar feature will be included in our 798cSI, 898cSI, 998cSI, and 1197cSI for the 2010 model year. Software available for exsting 798cSI, 981cSI, 987cSI, 997cSI and 1197cSI models.

The 997 will be replaced by the 998. The changes are faster processors, a video out port and an ethernet port which will be used in the near future. If these feature are important to you then wait until Jan. If not, the 997 is still an awesome unit. We are also introducing a 7" SI unit this year, the 898.
Same great features of the 900 series but with a price between the 700 and 900 series. Will sell for $1499.
