Got up at 4:00 am to make the trip from Garland to Texoma to meet up with Chris Carey (Striper Express). Got in the car looked up, extra clear sky(not good), looked at the treetops (no wind) not good. Got to exit 70, dense fog (maybe bad if we can't get on the lake), post front (not good). If I was a betting man I would have guessed this was going to be a very slow day - WRONG. At the lake the fog was dense only in a few areas. Got on the water and started catching top water in the dark and I was still sceptical as to how the day would be once the sun came up. Chris was throwing back some nice overs confident we could get better ones. We continued to catch a few here, few there and the sun was coming up burning the fog off. Chris made a move right into the thickest of the fog. Put down the trolling motor (no wind = no drift) and made a pass or two that produced some really mad good sized fish, smacking the lures 5,6,7 even 8 times. At times knocking the lure a foot out of the water. Now thats not the strange part at least to me. Sun is up, still not a wiff of wind, fog is gone and we go to check out another place. I spot some top water action but they look small to us so I go for my ultralight to get ready for a little fun fishing. Just as we approach a little closer so we can see what's going on Chris says look at all the GAR. Sure enough there were gar surfacing all over. But then every once in a while we would hear a definite striper splash and they weren't small. I was wanting to try the Moe's big kahuna spoon so we both tied one on and within minutes double hook up, very nice size stripers. There was another post on here asking what you caught on the big Kahuna, well we caught some very nice stripers. Caught several more and called it a fantastic day on a lake that continues to surprise me!

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Steve, Sandra and I were with Chris about 6 days ahead of you and had a fantastic morning. That boy knows how to put you into fish. Been fishing wth him about 12 years and never had a bad trip. Now that I broadcast it I probably have jinxed our next outing. The day we were with him we were using top waters and jerk baits. Nothing like getting banged by a large Striper on a top water!!! He gave us a few hints so that the next 3 days on the water were successful before coming back to Iowa. The last day on the water I think I caught more Stripers than anyone on the lake, but they were all in the 4 to 8 inch range. They were all taken on a large Chug Bug. What a fishery!!!Gene

First time I fished the Kahuna and had to learn its characteristics, slow fall, lots of flutter. We would cast out let fall to the bottom, jig up, crank in the slack, let fall, repeat. I don't know if this is the proper technique but it worked. They would hit on the rise most of the time. Will be ordering some more, all colors.

Nice work Steve and Chris. Once ya cast the Kahuna and fish it a bit ya get the feel'n. Once you get the strike they produce one tends to fish them a lot. Just got more white, chartreuse and Silver Hawaian Tide. Try one, u will like it!
