Are there any lakes within a couple hours of DFW where you can tent camp somewhere only accessible by boat?

Caddo....check out Goat Island.

You'll be the only one around for miles!

Got me...never been there. Looks like a neat place though!

Have you thought about the Red River? Some great sandbars to camp on.

Not sure if you can camp on Wolf Island on RayBob, but I always wanted to.

Years ago we would put in at the state park on PK and go up the Caddo Arm and camp for a week or 2 at a time. It's a Corp of Engineer lake so no one owns the shoreline except for tax payers.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

That's sort of my thinking. I have used Corp land elsewhere for hunting and fishing? Never been on PK, hear it's beautiful. Is there anything to watch out for as for shallow water or timber or is the lake open water?

Yes sir, camped on amistad before, I'm from San Antonio. Looking for a new adventure now that I live in North Texas.

I'd hit up Caddo....it's complete opposite of south Texas.

Or the Red River in Shreveport...several sandbars just down river.

I enjoy Amistad, but you can't beat the rivers and swamps around here!

The islands on Lake Texhoma are nice. Very sandy. Launch from the Texas side off Hwy 377 and go east. A number of islands on the North Side. Thats Oklahoma so make sure you have a Texhoma fishing license (use to be 10.00} or if you are over 65, just have your DL. It will be premative camping so take everything.
Out of Ft Worth go 35W north to Gainesville, 82 east to Whitesboro them 377 north to Texhoma. Good stripers, good catfish, fair Blacks and with the cooling of water the smallies will be active. You can stop by and pick me up in Ft Worth on the way. Just kiddin, got a date with a surgeon. If you've been in saltwater, wash your boat, they're fighting Zebra's up there. May want to wash it coming out of there also.
Got to keep them from spreading. The islands are pretty clean I think, so kids can go barefoot, but check with Oklahoma Game Wardens first, they're great.
