My jig box has several jigs with a little rust. How do you guys salavge them? If you remove the rust with sand paper do you put anything on the hook after removing the rust?

Vinegar will remove rust.

After the rust is removed, you must be careful that the parts don't immediately rust again. I have found that a quick dip (or wipe) in rubbing alcohol or paint thinner helps to displace any residual water. Follow this with a couple of minutes in the oven or a once-over with a hair dryer and you should be fine.

Might try placing a piece of cork in your jig box to absorb the moisture and preventing the rust... replacing the cork with a new piece every now and then.

My opinion is worth what you paid for it...

Keep those little bags of sila beads in your takle box. Bout once a month bake them in the oven to dry them back out. Works great in a sealed box.

Throw rusted hooks away and use Slug & Chuck's ideas. Those sound pretty good.

clean with vinegar...then dip in boiled linseed oil..(available at lowes/homedepot) this will seal metal and help prevent future rust. For sure get some silica packets to absorb moisture in the future.

I use my elevtric drill with a wire brush attachment to knock the rust off. Then I have an assortment of fingernail polish to protect from future rust, plus you can do some custom coloring with the fingernail polish. Walmart sells some for teens (I guess) that is clear with flakes of red. Or you can use black for a base coat, then the clear w red. You can really get creative with the different colors. I no longer use any shakey heads or other with just a plain lead head.

I cant remember if it is Plano or another brand of tacklebox, but I bought some that have rust proof plastic inserts that seperate the baits and those things work!! I have not had a rusty hook since I switched to those tackleboxes. The tabs are blue. I will check to see what brand and post it on here.

I have hooks that are rusting that are still on the rod. I am not sure if these are the gamakatsu or the owner hooks. Now, I have rust on the hook keeper on the rods. The rods are kept in a climate controlled room.

I've never had an Owner hook rust up on me. Not even the ones laying in the bottom of the boat stuck inside a Senko. Bet its a Gammy.

Sounds to me like you need to go fishing a little more often if your gear is rustin up!
