So the tell me a piston has Possibly blown. The quoted price was between 4000 to 6500!!! What should I do because I cannot afford that much.

More details will help. What boat and motor? If the motor is 20 years old a rebuild may not be worth it. If the motor is not very old, it might be. You might end up parting out your motor and repowering.

The 4 piston detonated. The motor is a 95 mercury 150zx model xr6

The lower half of that quote sounds about right. The big thing is that the engine needs to be completely stripped down to nothing but the block and have the cylinder bored and sleeved. That's the easy part. The hard part is putting it all back together. The cost really comes in on the labor since it's pretty labor intensive. Most part can be reused, but you will have to replace the pistons if damaged, and the rings. Most shops will replace the spark plugs and filters as preventative measure to help cut down on problems when it comes time to fire the engine up.

If you get some money saved up call David at D&B in Duncanville 972-243-6882. He can probably get you done for under $4k. Low overhead at a small shop is the reason. He might be a little hungry too. He is a good guy that will stand behind his work.
