I currently own twin 200 Optimax motors. They are almost 10 years old and I was thinking about buying some new Verados. What has been yall's experience with either of these motors? I want to know the up's and down's of both of these motors so I can decide if I should go this route.

i like them, etecs run great also, kinda like a ford vs chevy thing. i haven't heard a complaint about twin suzukis on a boat either. lots of options these days, either way, which ever engine you repower with, it'll out perform those optis, and you'll be extremely happy.

Take a look at his sig. The boat he's running is 28 ft with twin 200's hanging on the back. Weight isn't an issue on such a boat.

Fuel economy and dependability are.

A good friend just last summer re-powered his 28ft ProKat with twin Suzukis 4-strokes. He more than doubled his fuel economy and hasn't had a lick of trouble out of those motors. I'm sold on 'em.

The 200 Verado is almost the same weight as the Optimax in that horsepower.

As for larger Verado's, they are heavier and they are reliable.

Ditto on the 250 Suzi's.

Just got back on another trip with the Optis. They did good this. Time. GPS trip counter said 120mi. for the trip so I cant wait to calculate mileage. Gulf was FLAT on Sunday. Whatever number I end up with will be the best with regard to weather conditions.

Oh boy, here we go rolleyes

I have a 225 Pro XS Optimax and it has been a very solid engine. I use my boat about 6-8 times a month and on many different lakes. I run it hard and demand a lot out of it. Today's engines are built so much better than they were in the past. It's hard to get great fuel mileage out of an engine that runs at high rpm's and most are so close, the difference is negligable. I think you'll be fine with whatever you choose. Besides and engine lasts as long as the owner takes care of it thumb

Suzuki probably has the best 4-stroke available right now. Verado's are a good reliable engine, but too dang heavy. If used on a large off-shore rig they're perfect. On bass boats, the suck. Personally I prefer the the Optimax 250 Pro XS to anthing. Yhey are built to run the upper 5000 RPM range. Great engine.

I have heard of the coast guard putting a crazy amount of hours on those hondas running them hard with few problems. Have heard great things about the zukes as well.

What was that?

I would rather them spend it on motors they feel give the taxpayer the best longevity and service for the money. Buying American just for the sake of an American company is not wise use of tax dollars.

Buddy of mine is in the Coast Guard (Warrant officer) and is a mechanic. Says the Hondas are bullet proof. Good enough for me
