Just wondering if anyone knew when the crappie would start spawning. The females are all full of eggs now and look like they are ready to spawn. Also where is a good place to catch em during spawn?

Thanks rolleyes

spawning right now in a creek near you! Nails, Cedar and Yegua creeks have had crappie in them since january. check the archives for newmans bottom and Somerville. I tried big creek today and it's not very good, to shallow and muddy.

sorry for late report...
But I fished somerville on the 3-9-04 for
crappie at lake somerville Marina boat docks.
Managed to catch 9 crappie w/only 2 keepers
(males)..They were slow during the day there
but the action pick-up as the night wore on..
Any day, from here on out, they should be moving
to spawn...

Fished Sunday morning at Big Creek park. The males are in the area caught 11 keepers on minnows. Fished right by the grass about 8-10 inches deep. Also caught a lot of small fish on red & chartuse tube jig under a bobber. many people are bass fishing and having pretty good luck.

Went fishing Saturday night...caught about 75 - 80 crappie. Was in 14 ft. of water..fishing minnows...Here is the interesting part...I have ALWAYS used small minnows for crappie. However, my wife went with me and insisted that she wanted to use the "bass" minnows...so she did and she caught more than I did.

Go Figure...she out fished me all weekend long..

If you are bank fishing try Nails Creek Park and go over to the Cedar Creek fishing area. Another place closer to Bryan would be Birch Creek Park at the jetty by the boat ramp. Both can be good in the spring.
