Ok...so my whole life I have heard people say they are catching sand bass. What exactly is a sand bass. Its not labeled on tpwd website. Is this a hybrid? Also I was on tpwd browsing around at different lakes and realized that they label hybrid and white bass seperately. I thought a hybrid was a white bass. What is a white bass then? Can someone clear up sand bass and white bass for me?

Sand bass and white bass are the same thing. Hybrid are a cross between and striper and a white/sand bass.

a hatchery crosses them they dont do it themselfs, it is said that strippers can not reproduce in fresh water, i have caught big female stripers with eggs in them but i was told by tpwd that the eggs would not be capable of being fertilized

stripers spawn in texoma, never heard of it in whitney or any other lake in texas. as kyle1 said white/sand bass and stripers are crossed at hatcherys and then stocked by tpwd. hybrids cant spawn.

You guys cleared it up for me...that makes since...I highly doubt that they stock lake nocona with hybrids and I know they don't have striper so I must have been catching white bass. That's for the help

sand bass are usually around 10-16 inches long as well. I'm saying that's average.

Hybrid stripers can naturally occur if the sand (white) bass and stripers are spawning at the same time (striped bass eggs fertilized by white bass sperm).

Would you believe hybrids have several nicknames as well, wipers, sunshine bass, whiterocks, rocket bass? Pretty confusing huh?
