I have never used braid, but a while back I used the original fireline....hated it.
How is braid's castability? Also, can you use it in almost all applications as long as you attach a leader on it?
I use mono, and have tried fluoro once and didnt like it because of how stiff it was and the line memory. That was on a spinning reel though.
I was curious about braid.

Some braids are "kinda" stiff when you first put it on but it limbers up with use. The braid is not as hard coated as the fireline. (Fluoro on spinning reels is a problem looking for a place to happen.)

yea I could tell, with line twist.
I didnt use conditioner though and that might have been the problem. I would like to convert to braid so breaking off will not be an issue.

Palomar. Burn the cut end so it won't unravel. Lasts quite a while.

careful... braid does not stretch like mono.
I use straight 85lb. braid with all my topwater baits and have broken off a couple of times on the hook set.
other than that you cant beat it

Power Pro and Palomar Knot is the ticket....In my 60 years of fishing I have thrown a few spinning rods and reels in the lake so I wouldn't pick them up again...My son got me to try one more time with power pro on them and now I have 3 eggbeater rig set up.. no leaders works great..

i have only used braid for 10 years. i am currently using Stren Super braid in 40 lb. i was fishing a pond last week and looking at bass in 2 feet of water and pitched 20 feet to them and caught them. do not let people tell you that you can not catch fish in clear water on it. Polomar knot, a little softer rod and a good firm hook set. caught fish from 2 inch perch to 30 inch reds

power pro 50 pound for just about everything... I love it, use a palmar and leave about 3/8 inch tag just in case the knot slips a little... Casitbility is great, once you get used to it... you don't have to whip it like with mono. losen your break and you can SAIL it out there

All i use is braid on my poles and catch just as many fish than floro and mono. I use the 50# spiderwire stealth and it works great and casts good also. On some applications on cranking i go with floro or mono but almost 99% of the time i use braid. It has great sensitivity most of the time you wont break off if the fish wraps around cover. I love it.
