This has probably been discussed before but I could not find it. My wife is unable to get the hang of casting a baitcasting reel. I have no more patience for fixing backlash. It has been over 30 years since I purchased a closed face spincasting reel. My question is which ones are good, depenbable, smooth etc.. I looked at the Daiwa Gold and Silver the other day. I just have no reference point to draw from. I would be grateful for suggestions.

I own a Daiwa goldcast that I use for bream and crappie. Its the smallest model. I love it. My wife has no problems with it either. Minimal maintenance and smooth for a spincast. My FIL has an old abumatic that is still getting the job done for him. When my wife upgrades to a larger reel for catfish or bass, I will look at the larger goldcast, abumatic, or the zebco gold or delta series.

THe abu spincasters are top notch. If she does a decent amount of fishing I would go with one of the abus or the zebco omega. The omega is 60 bucks but has 6 bearings and a lot of other features that make it nice for a spincaster.

I would teach her to use spinning reel, much more versatile and higher quality than spincast. Don't over fill the spool , don't let her reel against the drag , and she should have no problems casting the spinner.

Got my little guy an omega, but even the best spincaster will fall victim to line twist. We had to respool after he forgot to put a swivel on. He got frustrated and decided to learn to cast a baitcaster and is much happier.

Omega is the way to go. They also make one a slight bit smaller with 4 bearings I think called a Delta. My wife has killed 3 Abumatics at Choke in the last 4 months. Stepped up to them after she killed like 8 Zebco33's in no time flat. The nice thing about the Omega & the Delta is they Titanium Nitrate Line guides and you can spool them with 20# Spiderwire Braid and they work well. I sure wished my wife would get the Baitcasters down pat too.

I gave up on Sheri my better half and baitcasters. I bought some kind of Zebco 33, it was about 58 bucks. I think its an Omega Silver but not sure. Its sure casts good.
I also bought her some kind of Shakespear closed face spinning reel. The problem with closed face reel is the low ratio, takes forever to reel in, but then less cast, less hangups.
Thanks, Billy

i bought my wife a quantum kinetic pt20 for inshore fishing out in galveston, and she tore it up! Big Mangroves, spanish macks, flounder, trout, and even the largest ladyfish I have ever seen. It's a good small light reel for the ladies. We put 15lb braid on it and it handled everything very well.
