Fished a few hours Friday morning around the rock Islands at Overlook. Tried a few brush piles and caught a 13 incher on a minnow. Boxed the fish thinking this would be a good day. Wrong, that was the only keeper. Caught all on minnows, jigs got light taps but no real hits. Saw lots of fish on the finder but they just wouldn't cooperate. The one crappie was empty, nothing in the stomach. This was the third trip in about 4 weeks with equal results. Beginning to wonder if I've lost my touch or if Somerville crappie fishing is really that bad.

True lots of bait/fish on finder but no luck myself of late. Accidently caught a 13" crappie on thrownet recently, but haven't tried to fish for them at Summerville in a couple of weeks. Perhaps under the lily-pads? Saw 4 Crappie caught in 10 minutes @ lake Bryan by boat dock this wkend. Go figure... Any reports from the Marinas on the lake? Jeez, it's hot out there....

fished sunday morning, 12 keepers 12' water over brush. My daughter caught the largest 14". it looked like there was a boat on every brush pile in the lake. I have to add we did drown 8 dozen minnows to get the 12.

Haven't heard any reports from the marina's but a recent TPWD fishing report said Somerville crappie were fair on black and chartreuse tails on pink jig heads. Thats what most people fish at the marina's use if they fish jigs.

I went last Friday morning and added some structure to one of my older spots. Then, I went fishin on a couple of BPs with very little result (1 keeper). Then, I went deeper at another BP and caught probably 20 small fish and 4 more keepers. All were caught on 1/8 jigs, primarily pearl and pink head with a clear body. The slow bite and the heat are making me consider some nighttime effort (but during the week so I can avoid the dipsticks and churned up water).
Fishing is a jerk at one end of the line, waiting on a jerk at the other end...and I'm proud to be one of 'em.

GLud, I saw a couple of boats trolling but never saw anyone catch anything. There were a couple of wake creater boats and lake fleas buzzing around, but other than that, not much activity. There was one boat with 3 guys fishing with minnows over one of my piles , but I didn't see anything caught. Pretty slow on top and below!

I saw a few trollers last Friday but no one catching. There was a boat where I wanted to fish so went to a BP near the big rock Island near Overlook. As I was drifting around with the trolling motor they left and came around me rushed in and anchored no less than 50 feet in front from me. Didn't bother me too much cause thats about as far as I was going in that direction anyway. They were casting bait and big bobbers up near the rocks. A woman caught a catfish about 3 lbs but after that all dinks. Another boat stayed in the same spot all morning. They were casting spoons and picking up a few fish now and then but not much action.
