I am a student at Texas Tech and I have seen several ponds relitivly close to campus. I was wondering if anybody has fished these and if there is any bass in them. Just looking to wet a hook!

Thanks!

Running joke for fishing Lubbock is that it has some of the greatest fishing withing 500 miles... laugh

Its been since the 80's for me but many of the so called ponds around Lubbock lacked water year round. Sometimes they would be full and look fishable, a month later they were dry mud flats. You're a long way from Longview fishing, I hope you find something to scratch your fishing itch. I do think they now have a real good bass fishing team on campus. I am sure they could help you find something.

Back about a million years ago, there were plenty of catfish to be caught in those playa lakes, but I only knew of one with any bass in it. I can't for the life of me, remember where it was.

Hey PTCRAIG08 i lived in lbk until i was 12 and tried all those lil dink ponds. your best luck is buffalo lake or buddy holly park they have some "alright" fishing in them but something tells me they had a algie problem in buffalo that might have killed off the fish but i could be wrong i would ask one the rangers on the lake to make sure. just my 2 cents

They say Buffalo is back on track I assume thier issue that killed a lot of fish is resolved. +1 on Buddy Holly and 82nd&Memphis does have bass most are small. I know for a fact 82nd & Memphis has Bass, Crappie, Cats and Carp. The 82nd & Memphis is actually about a block or two south of 82nd but 82nd st the best way to get to it its behind some businesses. I go there a lot with my mom and step dad when they want to stay in town and fish to get out of the house. I try to get them to go with me to alan henry but they perfer to stay in town. Heck if I was retired I would get the heck out of lubbock but thats my opinion. Now i am getting off topic. There are keepers in the playa lakes and that one I mentioned has several but your catch ratio in my experience is 10:1 you through about 10 back before oyu get a good keeper. There are tons of baby bass there my fear is they swallow your hook and I think the mortality rate there is going to be high. If the baby bass make it then a few years that playa lake will have some really nice bass.

I fish these ponds all the time, and most of the have bass in them. This year I got a 6 pounder out of the pond on the south side of the loop just west of Texas land and cattle. I also take my five year daughter to the ponds and she catches bass out of them. One of the better ones is 82nd and Memphis on the north side of 82nd street. I have got serveral 2 pounder out of that one. Maybe I will see you out there sometime....

I don't know about the playas close to tech, but there are several around town that hold bass. Someone already mentioned Andrews (82nd and memphis). This lake has a pretty good population of bass, some good size ones too. I've seen some bass pulled out of a little pond with a bunch of reeds on slide just south of the loop.

There have been bass in that one since I was a kid. The one right across slide from it also has bass in it. You can see the canal that leads to the lake from the reed lake behind the fire station. I caught my first bass in that lake when I was young fishing for carp. It hit a hook full of corn when I was reeling it back in, hehe.
