I have an HMH Spartan and I like it a lot. It holds small hook easily...up to 2/0 with no problem. I have not tried a bigger hook in the vise since a 2/0 is the highest I've gone on a hook in size. I love the vise, especially after I have used it a while. I have the pedestal type. As with the Peak...the larger hooks need to be seated in further in the jaws. The small hooks up to size 4 or so do not need to be seated in further. The vise took a little getting used to...but it is a great vise. Plus it is American made as well. That is always a plus for me.

I have an el cheapo BPS kit vice. It holds the hook, so I'm happy.

Ken, How do you explain the poor review of the peak vise on BPS's website. Someone said the vise wiggles in the clamp. Is this true, or operator error?

Very interesting that this thread popped back up.

With the Ott light, I've noticed things such as dirt on my TV remotes.

Unfortunately I also noticed rust on my Griffin vise. Where did that come from?

After rotating a few flys this morning, I decided it was time for an upgrade. This evening I pulled the trigger and ordered the Peak vise.

I have that too from taking it down for saltwater trips but it is too thick to ever rust through or be a problem I think.

I continue to be amazed by the good folks at J. Stockard Fly Fishing.

I ordered the Peak vise Sunday evening and it was shipped Monday afternoon. That got me hoping for a Wednesday or Thursday delivery.

The vise is probably a bit heaver than my usual orders of hooks, fur or feathers, so it was sent via another carrier. I don't suppose a Friday delivery will be too bad.

I just got an order in from them yesterday. They are a good company to order from. Very dependable.

The Peak has arrived. I like it, especially the cam lock.

My only nit-pick is that the clamp seems way over engineered. I like the design, but the 1 1/2" width and 3/8" bolt seems excessive. It needs to hold a fly vise, not an anvil.

The bad review at BPS does indeed seem to be user error - consider that he has the pikes peak package, but reviewed the clamp mount.
