I am sure this post has been up before but couldnt really find my answer so here is the question...
I fish Amistad quite often and I always used to throw a 5" senko... but I decided to throw the 6" as it is longer and it casts farther, I also used to throw a 7" power worm and now throwing 10 - 12inch worms so here is what I am trying to figure out...
I used to catch quite a few fish using the smaller worms I mean alot more often, but there were always smaller fish, so since I started throwing the bigger worms I am catching almost all keepers and not one fish under 13" which is almost a keeper but they are all good sized fish... Does the worm size really matter that much to the fish during the summer/fall, I always thought they liked bigger baits so more would hit them but instead I am getting alot more decent fish but not as many bites... I just cant figure out how an ich to 2 inches matters that much to them...

I've been throwing 13-15" Gambler worms on Choke & have been doing very well the past 2 weekends I've caught 2 fish 7 1/2# & the smallest has been 2#s. Just a thought for you here. FOR ME PERSONALLY I've learned that when fishing these larger plastics. Even the larger fish I've been feeling just a small tick & setting the hook. Most of the time it just feels like you're bumping a log or rock. If you pause a second or two look at YOUR LINE. They will pick it up & you will see your line swimming off & set the hook!!!..................Rob

The Difference is..
Smaller worms will catch all sizes of Bass... Thousands of Larger Fish including double digit Bass are caught on 4" French frys. Craws/ Worms every year.
Larger worms tend to target larger fish because the smaller fish are not as attached to things larger/ longer than themselves.
However I have caught a 5" Bass on a 6" Larew Craw worm at Lake Fork. It's entire mouth was Jambed full of plastic. In real life a 6" Craw would be a pretty good fight for a 5" Bass and one they would most likely avoid.
Most of the time if you are catching smaller fish you just need to fish deeper or move to another location since like size fish tend to school in like places.

bass are predators. They are not human nor do they posses the ability to reason. They are oppotunistic feeders. They see the opportunity to consume prey & do so. By either ambush or reactive feeding. I personally don't think the size of a bait detours fish of any size of feeding on it large or small. Now I do think you may think fish are "short striking" or you simply missed a hook set because a smaller fish may hit behind the hook on a plastic & you're actually ripping the bait from his mouth & the hook is farther forward of his mouth. My belief is a larger bait creates more action & movement. This is what makes fish investigate & think its a tasty morsel of food & strike. The more "NATURAL" movement a bait has the more tantalizing it is. This is just my opinion & we all know what they say about opinions. I'm by far no pro or expert in any way, but when a rookie like myself can go to Choke & pull 7#+ fish back to back on consecutive weekends. I think I'm doing something right. Sorry I don't have pics from Labor Day. My phone went dead before I got on the water because I forgot to charge it. But I will post a pic tomorrow of the 7# fish I caught yesterday. TIGHT LINES all my friends!!!!!!.......................... Rob
