Is the end of the jetties close enough? Frequently king mackerel, spanish mackerel, tarpon, various snappers, sharks, trout, reds, even the odd sailfish here and there.

Typically offshore fishing begins in earnest once you get to 100+ ft. of water. Depending which you port you run out of determines how quickly the water gets to that depth. The farther south you go the closer the 100 ft. mark is. Rip currents and weedlines can be found (although not this year) inside 20 miles and will hold mahi and ling. Rigs and structure will hold snapper near shore (inside 20 miles) and grouper and amberjack in deeper water (200+ ft. range).

Get an Epirb. Make sure the batteries are new. If you capsize the epirb automatically starts broadcasting its position over the satellite. That way Coasties can find you or at least find the epirb.

Yeah...make sure you wash the boat and trailer down at the car wash as soon as you leave. Then put the muffs on the outboard and run it, flushing it with fresh water long enough for the thermostats to open. I run mine for 20 min or more at idle. Take a shower with your rods and reels too.

Double check the boat's bilge pump. Make CERTAIN it works and works well.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
