Example:

A father and his son are listening to the radio when it's announced that their favorite player Don Butter missed the team flight.

The Dad says to his son, "There won't be a Butterflyin' today..hardy harr harr..." etc.

The son, embarrassed, can only muster uncomfortable laughter.

Dad thinks it's funny.....

Hence a "Dad Joke". It's a Ticket thing..heehee :p

Not a bad thing....just a fun thing. Local Anglers LOVES to throw em at me 24/7!!!

In fact, I accuse him of trying to "Dad me to death!" :p

Do the fish have to be alive when brought in?

When landed or when weighed?

When weighed or when ever it takes to make it a record.

KD, you scare me! LOL laugh Neat job though....I'd have applied if the Ticket staff didn't bad mouth it all the time! That is the only thing that scares me off! I think it's a neat idea...but fearful it'd hold me back in some ways. PLEASE do NOT take that as a dig....it's just how some of those guys see it frown

BUT you didn't hear that from me!!!!!!

MR Float tube...it must be landed alive!

However, it does not need to be alive when weighed. You must take GOOD PICTURES of the fish when measuring its length, girth, and any special characteristics. You'll want a GREAT set of pics to be sent in. IF NOT, plan on keeping it in your freezer, they may ask for it for ID purposes!

You'll also need it to be weighed by a cert scale within 3 days of catch. A full set of rules can be found at TPWD website under freshwater/records.

A 'dad joke' is a reference to something cheesey that Norm would say.

Yes...it's the same thing. That's why it's called a "Dad Joke" and not a "Norm Joke".

Corby named them "Dad Jokes" because of their lame nature. It just so happens that Norm is the champieeeeen when it comes to "Dad Jokes".

Leave the P1 stuff up to me...umkay! LOL Just kidding ya! Welcome aboard fellow P1 P2 or even a P3!! wink laugh

Hey everyone,
I think it depends on the fish species and the fisherman. I've seen many Record Catfish that never were reported. I also know many Catfishermen that wouldn't report a record even if there were money involved.
I think it all depends on how many people you want fishing your "Honey Hole", and how much you want to tell every one "look at me".

Don't get me wrong,If I cought a 130lb Yella (Flathead Catfish) I would be on the phone calling every one I know.

We catch Yella cat (Flathead Catfish) from 50 to 70lbs often. Unless you know someone very well you really don't have the right to call them a liar. The record I found for Richland Chambers is 80.25lbs, and I know for a fact that we pulled one out of there that was between 83 and 84 lbs. I don't really care if anyone wants to call me a liar, But I'm not going to put it on record just so I can say "Ha, Ha I cought a bigger fish than you". Now give me a 100lb or bigger (Flathead Catfish) then I would have to think about it for a little bit.

I personally don't care whos name is beside the fish. The only advantage I see in record keeping is to know the likelyhood of catching a big fish. By this I mean if the lake record for Bass (Black Bass, AKA: Largemouth Bass) is 18 lbs, You would think that you would have alot better chance of catching an 8 or 10. Now if the record Bass (Black Bass) was 10lbs I think a big fish would be more like 5 or 6 lbs.
Personaly I keep my own records. I'm not real sure I would go out of my way and spend my fishing time to find authorized scales, Just to say "look what I cought", to a bunch of people that I don't even know.

Just my 2 cents. I hope I didn't step on any toes. Does anybody have 3 cents I can borrow?
Be safe guys, log that record if it's your thing, It's just not for me...Catfish_addiction

(This reply was edited to help better understand the "slang" Names used for the species of fish.)

Catfish,

I looked it up again and I belive you're using a common name and not a proper one.....no big deal, everyone does! Heck how many times have you heard a crappie called a "white perch". I do believe the actual "white perch" would have something to say about that! LOL laugh

Here's the stats on the yellow bullhead catfish

Sorry for any confusion,The Catfish that I'm talking about is the Pylodictis Olivaris (Mud Cat). Aka: Flat Head Catfish, Opelousas, Shovelhead Cat, Mud Cat, Yella Cat, or Yellow Cat. World record 123.9 Lbs out of Kansas U.S.A.. Check Here ...

Be safe...Catfish Addiction
