Never gone to triple ought. But I do have an ought weight that is used to harass bream and other small fish in skinny water. Got out for a lot less than 5 C notes. Sierra Trading Post.
Good Luck with tiny tackle, its a blast.

Robin, can you direct Nick to the light fly tackle forum without breaking the rules of this forum?

Reading Joe Hyde's stories on FAOL gave me an ought itch a wile back. The best scratching I've done is with a 2wt. I just checked the MudHole catalog. the TXL ought blanks are only $280. Maybe next year.

I have a blast with a 2wt I could only imagine "0" or "000".
It's more than the catfish would do.

I have a 000 and 1 wt TXL, and a 0 weight SPLCA, all Sage. The ought weight was bought over ten years ago at a steep discount, the 000 and 1 wt are custom rods made for me by others. They are fun rods to use, but I frankly don't use them that much, since they are true specialty rods.
Most of my recent fishing (Red River for stripers, Alaska for salmon and big rainbows) required much heavier tackle (6-9wts and longer rods (9-11 ft) to handle the long leaders, heavy weights, and line mending.
But in the right setting, like tossing dry flies to trout or panfish, they are a blast.

I have a one wt, what can/could you catch on an 000 to 0 that would not ruin it. You mention trout, my 5 wt seems to light sometimes. Maybe I am not understanding, but a 000 seems to be like fishing w/ a straw!!??
Help me Obi Won!

Never having fished a 000 I cannot speak with any authority on it's use. But being a longtime single ought owner and angler I can say that the bream in Collin County creeks are fair and fun game. Now when that 18" koi pondered my PT nymph one afternoon I confess that I was glad he passed on it!

Help me Obi Won! With some trout as picky as they are, i imagine if you can be more delicate with your presentation you'd catch a few more

I just can't justify spending that kind of money on something so impractical, oh I mean specialty rod. But if it makes one happy, great for him/her. I do love Sage rods.

Although I don't have the 000, I can imagine it's a great rod. Recently I traded a Norvise for a TXL 00 and love it. Perfect for small mountain trout streams or local creeks. Rest assured it's no toy. This one is paired with a Redington CT 2/3 Les
